Vernon! With production well underway in New York City for the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, there’s a big question surrounding Arrested Development actor Will Arnett’s role in the upcoming movie. Arnett was cast in the film a few weeks ago, but there was no word about who he would be playing. There was some speculation that he might be the film’s villain, The Shredder — hey, it’s no worse an idea than Megan Fox as April O’Neil — but it appears that’s not the case.

Early leaked location photos from New York City suggests that Will Arnett is playing the role of Vernon Fenwick, April O’Neil’s (Megan Fox) co-worker and Channel 6 News cameraman. So it seems Will Arnett will be the comic relief rather than the villain.

The character of Vernon Fenwick was not in the original TMNT comic book, but was rather a new character introduced in the 1987 animated series and Archie Comics’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures. Vernon Fenwick is arrogant and manipulative, but cowardly and meek in the face of danger. He’s also jealous of April O’Neil and wants her job as the head news reporter for Channel 6 News.

Michael Bay and actor Alan Ritchson recently defended the Turtles reboot, explaining that the Turtles will, in fact, be mutants, rather than space aliens as was rumored earlier. The title even changed back from Ninja Turtles to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to let longtime fans of the series know that this version will be as faithful as possible to its source material.

Jonathan Liebesman (Battle Los Angeles) is directing the film, while Michael Bay will produce and screenwriters Josh Appelbaum & André Nemec (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) co-wrote the script with TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will hit theaters everywhere on June 6, 2014.
