Anne Hathaway earned some serious geek cred with her sultry performance as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, in this summer’s The Dark Knight Rises. Now it looks like she may continue trying to win fanboy hearts (she’s held the deed to mine for quite a while now) with another high-profile project: Steven Spielberg’s SF epic, Robopocalypse.

She can crash my apocalypse anytime.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hathaway is in talks to play the female lead. Assuming all goes well, this would have her share the screen with yet another superhero. Thor actor Chris Hemsworth is slated to play the male lead. Unfortunately, we still don’t have any official descriptions of the storyline, or details on the roles Hathaway or Hemsworth would be filling out, other than the whole “lead” thing. We can safely assume that whatever their character descriptions, they’ll both be damned pretty.

Robopocalypse, aside from sounding like a Futurama subplot, is based on the 2011 novel by Daniel H. Wilson. It focuses on a robotic uprising, and the human resistance against it. So it’s a little bit Terminator, a little bit World War Z. Spielberg’s in the director’s chair, and former Buffy-verse writer Drew Goddard wrote the script. Given that Goddard penned this year’s The Cabin in the Woods, that’s very good news indeed.

Weirdly, Hollywood seems to have robots on the brain of late. While Robopocalypse has been in development for several years now, three separate robot-related TV shows were announced a couple of weeks back. One, Epsilon, is from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the Zombieland guys. The second, for NBC, is from former Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles showrunner Josh Friedman, who obviously has some experience when it comes to the subject of killer robots. Last but not least, the Fringe pairing of J.J. Abrams and J.H. Wyman have a robot project in the works for Fox.

Robopocalypse is scheduled to hit theaters on April 25, 2014.
