The production of the sequel to the Hunger Games has been ramping up this month. A few weeks ago, Actress Jena Malone and Academy Award Winner Philip Seymour Hoffman were added to the cast of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Today, Lionsgate has announced actress Amanda Plummer will now join the cast and will be playing the role of Tribute Wiress.
Amanda Plummer is most well known for playing the role of Honey Bunny/Yolanda in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 film, Pulp Fiction. She has since appeared in the movie The Fisher King as well as episodes of the TV series Battlestar Galactica.
The character of Wiress hails from District 3 and was the winner of a previous Hunger Games tournament. She is described as always being one step ahead of the others and quickly becomes an ally with Johanna Mason and eventually Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). She is affectionately nicknamed “Nuts” by Mason. Wiress is also described as being in her early 30s; this could be problematic since Plummber is in her mid-50s. Plummer is the latest addition to an all-star cast, which is quickly becoming the American Harry Potter equivalent.
Last week, Lionsgate also announced the release date for the third installment of The Hunger Games, Mockingjay. The final film will be split into two parts (like Harry Potter 7 and Twilight 4), part one will be released on November 21st 2014 and part two will be released the next year on November 20th 2015.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will start shooting this September and will be released on November 22nd 2013.
