We’re less than a month away from the release of Gearbox’s Aliens: Colonial Marines, and I’m more than a little excited. I should probably be moderating my expectations, but I can’t. The game is a direct sequel to Aliens, unfolds in several infamous locations from the films, and even uses many of the franchise’s unmistakable sound effects. The click of that motion tracker is wired directly into the fear response of anyone who has seen Aliens, so Colonial Marines promises to be a top-notch lights-off gaming experience. Of course, all of that could be moot if the game isn’t any good, but this latest TV spot isn’t doing anything to dampen my enthusiasm.

In addition to putting the game’s action front and center, this new trailer has a few things worth noticing. First and foremost, it confirms that this new squad of Marines sent to investigate the happenings on LV-426 will indeed be venturing inside the derelict spacecraft where this mess first began. We get to see the jarheads checking out the Space Jockey himself — or the Dead Engineer, depending on whether or not you’re trying to pretend Prometheus never happened.

It also looks like we may get to pilot a power loader and/or dropship. Those could just be cutscene moments, but the power loader is almost a gimme if you’re making a game like this, and the brief glimpse at the dropship heading toward another ship definitely feels like gameplay footage to me.

Aliens: Colonial Marines releases February 12th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, WiiU, and PC
