Before JJ Abrams swept continuity away to create an alternate Star Trek universe to play around in Christopher Pike, the first Captain of the Enterprise, was known mostly as that guy in the chair with the blinky light. But in the new Trek he’s played heroically by Bruce Greenwood, and he’ll be back in the next Trek feature film.
Co-screenwriter Roberto Orci confirmed his return on TrekWeb where he says, “We wrote a part for Greenwood. Let us hope he says Yes!”
One thing worth keeping in mind when it comes to Pike, is that even though Abrams has created an alternate universe it doesn’t necessarily mean Pike won’t still end up in this…
By the end of the first film he’s already in a wheel chair, the result of his heroics earlier in the story attempting to save his ship full of cadets. Interestingly that’s not all that different from how Pike ended up as a blinky light in the original timeline, where he was severely injured while rescuing cadets on a training vessel.
You never know what the future holds. Admiral Pike could well be in for something worse.
