Nostalgia for the 1980s is a very powerful thing! A new music video from recording artist Jon Marco references darn near everything from the ’80s, with tons of sci-fi classics getting a nod.
Starting off with a Back to the Future-like logo, we see the music video transition from the original film to the sequel’s hoverboards and power-laced Nikes. There are references to E.T., Return of the Jedi, the original Ghostbusters, and Tron.
Although there are some references to non-science fiction films, including Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Dirty Dancing, there seems to be an emphasis on Back to the Future more than anything else. It begins and ends with nods to Robert Zemeckis’ time travel classic, and the best part of the video is Marty McFly’s Johnny B. Goode guitar solo from the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance.
Jon Marco is a New York City-based musician whgo makes pop/synth music. He’s originally from Boston, but moved to New York City to start a new band. The song “Rhianna” is extremely catchy! The music video is very, very clever and surprisingly well made for a low-budget music video.
You can listen to Jon Marco’s self-titled EP on his BandCamp page. Can you catch every movie reference in the music video above?
