Before David Lynch gave the world his overstuffed vision of Frank Herbert’s Dune, Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky tried to mount a version of the story that would have included music by Pink Floyd; character and set design by H.R. Giger, Chris Foss, and Jean “Moebius” Giraud; with special effects by Dan O’Bannon and a cast featuring Orson Welles, David Carradine, Mick Jagger, and Salvador friggin’ Dali. Needless to say, it’s one of the more fascinating “what could have been” stories in science fiction history, and this acclaimed documentary is the perfect tour guide.
