Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey is arguably the greatest science fiction movie of all time. It poses interesting questions about the existence of man and the prospect of a ever-evolving technology. Enter Microsoft’s next-generation gaming console, the Xbox One.

The above hilarious parody video from Gritty Reboots combines Stanley Kubrick’s groundbreaking science fiction film with the latest Xbox One. If you think about it, the new Xbox One does look like a horizontal Monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey; both are black, bulky, and boxy.

Gritty Reboots is a video comedy team from Seattle, Washington. They make movie trailers based on Internet pop culture, movie and TV spoofs, and nostalgia. Gritty Reboots has made other parody trailers including Calvin & Hobbes: The Movie, PBS: The Movie, and Pokémon Snap: The Movie, which is a Pokémon/Jurassic Park parody.

Since the Xbox One has the ability to practically do anything in your home living room, then why not make it the HAL 9000 from Stanley Kubrick’s science fiction film? It’s a very clever video and seeing the Xbox One change from green to red is also a nice touch. It seems like the next generation of video game consoles after the Xbox One would feature some sort of artificial intelligence. Considering that the new Xbox One can monitor and track your movements, heartrate, and vitals, it’s not too far off the mark.
