Yesterday Pay Pal founder Elon Musk’s SpaceX made history by becoming the first privately owned organization to successfully send a craft to the International Space Station. The Dragon spacecraft stayed bolted to the ISS for hours before being opened. But this morning at 5:53am EDT astronauts inside the ISS cracked open the hatch. According to NASA astronaut Don Pettit, “The smell inside smells like a brand new car”.

The hatch was opened as the International Space Station orbited 253 miles above New Zealand. Now they’ll go to work unloading the craft’s nearly 1000 pounds of cargo. Dragon is scheduled to detach from the ISS and return to Earth via Pacific Ocean splashdown on May 31st.
