Science fiction has taught us that robots will eventually become sentient, rise up against their human creators, and enslave us all. That’s pretty much a given at this point, right? Still, in this brave new world it’s probable that not every robot will be into the whole let’s-kill-humans thing. Odds are there will be a few that just want to rock. Especially if this video of the fully robotic heavy metal band Compressorhead is to be believed.
It’s hard not to be impressed, and somewhat frightened, while watching Compressorhead kicking out the most metal version of Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades” you’ll ever see. So while the T-800s of the world will be out slaughtering humans, these guys will provide an appropriate soundtrack.
Like every band, Compressorhead is made up of disparate types, come together to worship at the altar of rock. There’s the nerdy-looking guitar player, who has the appearance of a guy who doesn’t do anything but hang out in the basement of his parent’s house, learning to play every Iron Maiden solo backwards. Why are bass players always big, beefy dudes? A four-armed drummer with a Mohawk made out of metal spikes rounds out the group.
Compressorhead even has a groupie, that weird little dude that hangs out at every practice and knows the words to every song. They come in handy when it comes time to move amplifiers, or when you need someone to man the merch table so the band can hit on drunk chicks.
Somehow it seems only too appropriate that Compressorhead is German. Of course they are. No one but the Germans would build a collection of robots solely for the purpose of playing Motorhead songs.
