Star Wars: Are Both Reports About The First Spinoff True?

star warsAs we all wait with an edgy glee for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, progress on the first of the standalone spinoff movies keeps right on rolling along. We’ve heard that they’re auditioning a variety of up-and-coming actresses for an unspecified part, and now that screenwriter Gary Whitta left the production, it’s rumored that Simon Kinberg may take over that role for the Gareth Edwards-directed film. We’ve also heard two potential plots, or at least two loose topics, though they seemed to contradict one another. That, however, may not be the case, and both of these seemingly disparate elements could be part of the same the same movie.

You probably figured this out already, but there are potential SPOILERS for the first Star Wars spinoff. Tread cautiously. It should also be noted that this is all unconfirmed, so take it with a grain of salt or two, maybe three.

Star Wars 7: Peter Mayhew Hospitalized, Get The Details Here

ChewbaccaThere was a big to-do made about the broken leg Harrison Ford suffered on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens last year, and the brief production delay it caused. But now another member of the cast, also a returning fan favorite, has had a health scare. Peter Mayhew, who plays Han Solo’s enormous, hairy BFF Chewbacca, has been hospitalized with pneumonia. Fortunately, he’s doing well, and doctors expect him to make a full recovery.

Rumors about Mayhew’s ill health began circulating on the Internet, and Mayhew’s wife, Angie, took to Reddit to issue a statement confirming the news. The prognosis is positive, and she wrote, “Doctors are incredibly happy with his improvements.”

Star Wars: These Three Actresses Are Up For A Role In Gareth Edward’s Spinoff

star warsJ.J. Abrams and company are in the process of finishing up Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and while we’ll hear occasional tidbits about who is involved, like how three actors from Gareth Evans’ The Raid movies play some part, things are generally closed on that front. But with a slew of other movies in the works, there’s bound to be a ton of casting rumors on that front. And now we’ve got a new report going around about three actresses in contention for a role in Gareth Edwards’ (Godzilla) upcoming standalone Star Wars film.

According to Heat Vision, Tatiana Maslany, Rooney Mara, and Felicity Jones are all testing for an as yet unspecified role in the first of the offshoot films. There’s not much more know than that, as details are being protected by Jedi mind trick. These readings reportedly started in the U.K. before moving stateside. Regardless of the part, or which of these actresses land it, or if it even winds up being one of them, these are three of the hottest young actresses currently working right now.

Star Wars Rebels Brings Back A Fan Favorite: This Week’s TV Picks

As we inch closer to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the expansive Star Wars canon has been streamlined to three primary onscreen sources: the six primary films, the Clone Wars animated series, and Star Wars Rebels. (As well as secondary material such as the new novels and Marvel comics.) Rebels is particularly interesting since it’s bridging the years between Clone Wars and A New Hope. In addition to new stories and new characters, Rebels has already included appearances from Clone Wars-era Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, and even Yoda himself. Tonight Rebels brings another familiar face into the spotlight: that crafty bastard Lando Calrissian.

A New Star Wars 7 Trailer Is Coming Soon, With Han, Luke, And Leia, Details Here

Star WarsIt’s silly to get too excited about an upcoming trailer, we’re well aware of that, but when it’s the next trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it’s hard not to get at least a little bit stoked. (Hell, I paid for a ticket to a movie I didn’t care about just to see the last one on the big screen.) And while the first one is great, it’s conspicuously missing any of the returning characters, primarily Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. But now we know not only when we’ll see the next look at J.J. Abrams’ adventure in that far, far away galaxy, but also that we’ll finally see those familiar faces we’re so pumped about.

This isn’t a huge surprise, but Latino Review confirms that the next Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser, trailer, or whatever you want to call it, will be attached to Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron when it drops May 1. That makes sense, using what is going to be one of the biggest movies of the year to hype up what is likely going to be the biggest movie of the year. Especially since Disney owns both Marvel and Lucasfilm. I’m waiting for the cross promotion to get to the point where there’s a just a Wookiee walking around in the background of a Marvel movie somewhere.

Comic(s) Relief: Archie vs. Predator Looks Like The Most WTF Mash-up In A Long Time

There have been some weird damn comics crossovers throughout the years. IDW Publishing has teamed the Ghostbusters up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, not to mention joining forces with BOOM! Studios for the recently launched Star Trek/Planet of the Apes: The Primate Directive. But for sheer WTF factor, you’d be hard pressed to find a weirder crossover concept than the upcoming Archie vs. Predator. Yes, you read that right.
