Here’s How Star Wars Plans To Link Return Of The Jedi To The Force Awakens

fb share tweet share

Star WarsWe all knew that since Disney bought Lucasfilm and now owns Star Wars we were going to see that universe grow and expand like never before. There are already books, comics, and an animated series, as well as half-a-dozen movies in the works, but holy crap they are not messing around. Even though the Expanded Universe of novels and other properties that have existed for years has been scrapped, deemed non-canon, that doesn’t mean that Lucasfilm is abandoning that expansive approach, and they have plans to release an avalanche of new, officially canon material.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Disney, along with Worldwide Publishing and Lucasfilm Press, plans to release “at least 20” Star Wars books this year, a series titled Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This is all designed to capitalize on the hype surrounding the impending release of J.J. Abrams’ film, which opens December 18, and much of the ground covered falls between the original trilogy and the new films, serving as a link between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. After all, a lot can happen in 30 plus years.

Here’s How The Next Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer Reveals Luke, Leia, And Han

fb share tweet share

Star WarsWhen we’re talking about a movie the size of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the trailers get more hype and attention than most of the other films that hit the theaters in a given year. Every single frame of the one that dropped back in November has been examined, poured over, and milked of every last drop of potential information. And now it’s time to move our attention to the next trailer.

We’ve heard that the next look at The Force Awakens will show theatrically with Avengers: Age of Ultron, and the most recent news has it making its public debut at Star Wars Celebration in mid-April. Latino Review has been all over the Star Wars beat since day one, and they’ve had contact with multiple sources, all claiming to have seen a similar trailer, and shared the description with the world. There are spoilers for the trailer beyond this point, if that’s even a real thing. This report is, obviously, unconfirmed.

Harrison Ford Is Officially A Go For Blade Runner 2, This Oscar Nominee May Direct

fb share tweet share

Blade RunnerThere have been rumblings of Blade Runner 2 for years, but it hasn’t been until recently that things really got rolling on the long gestating sequel. That’s not to say it’s been a smooth ride. Ridley Scott, busy with The Martian and Prometheus 2, among other projects, said he wasn’t going to direct. And though star Harrison Ford has appeared enthusiastic, there’s always been the caveat of the script has to be write and it has to fit into his schedule. Now, however, the production has not only secured its star, but has also scored a potential coup, landing Academy Award nominated director Denis Villeneuve.

This isn’t even just some rumor that someone heard from one of their unnamed sources who overheard this tidbit at lunch. The news comes in the form of a press release, and while Ford is firmly in place, Villeneuve is not 100% on board yet, though he is apparently deep in negotiations and more or less concrete. They’re at least sure enough that he’ll sign on that they put out a press release.

Star Wars May Want Kingsman’s Taron Egerton To Play This Huge Role

fb share tweet share

Taron EgertonMost of the recent attention focused on Star Wars centers on The Force Awakens. That makes sense, as it’s the first new film addition to the franchise since Revenge of the Sith in 2005, and it drops in less than ten months. Still, in addition to the Episode films, we also have a variety of standalone projects in the works, and one of them may have just found their lead.

Be warned, there are potential spoilers for the standalone Star Wars films beyond this point.

This Star Wars: The Force Awakens Spoiler Is Huge For One Key Character

fb share tweet share

Star WarsAt this point, what would a day talking about sci-fi be without a potential spoiler for Star Wars: The Force Awakens? That would probably be a day we slept through, or maybe the day the internet finally breaks. But today is not that day, so there is the obligatory potential SPOILER, and it’s a doozy, like, maybe you don’t necessarily want to read this one.

Seriously, there are SPOILERS beyond this point, like the kind we feel a little bit bad about posting. But you’re grownups and can make your own decision.

This Star Wars Veteran Thinks He’ll Be Back On The Big Screen Eventually

fb share tweet share

lando calrissianAs the Star Wars universe expands exponentially, we’re going to get to meet all kinds of new characters and go on all sorts of fun new adventures. And of course we’re going to get to hang out with some familiar faces as well, most notably Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. That’s pretty awesome. When we found out that some characters were going to show up again, it kicked off an avalanche of speculation about who might return, and when we found out who, people were bummed that maybe their favorite was left out. With so many more movies on the way, there are ample opportunities for others to reprise their roles, and one former player thinks that he will be back for another movie eventually.

One notable absence in Star Wars: The Force Awakens is Billy Dee Williams’ Lando Calrissian. That’s a bummer, as lots of us would love to see what he’s been up to since he blew up the Death Star in Return of the Jedi. Lando did show up recently on the animated series Star Wars Rebels, with Williams providing the voice, and though he won’t be on the big screen come December 18, he expects that it is only a matter of time before he rejoins that far, far away galaxy.
