Chris Pine Talks Captain Kirk, Benedict Cumberbatch, And Star Trek Into Darkness

fb share tweet share

J.J. Abrams is notorious for secrecy on set, and no doubt the cast and crew of the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness have been pinkie-sworn to secrecy. Perhaps there’s a blood oath involved. With the news that the trailer will premiere with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (as well as the nine-minute sneak peak with the IMAX version), the sequel to the 2009 reboot of the legendary sci-fi franchise has been a hot topic of conversation this week.

For what it’s worth, the new-jack Captain Kirk himself, Chris Pine, has been doing his part, teasing his role, as well as Benedict Cumberbatch’s mystery villain.

William Shatner is such a larger than life figure, that it’s hard to imagine him as a serious actor on Broadway. But before he became Captain Kirk, that’s exactly what he was. He made his Broadway debut in 1956 as part of a play called Tamburlaine The Great and now, 56 years later, he’s going back.

Shatner has announced that he’s heading to Broadway where he’ll star in a one-man show called Shatner’s World: We Just Live In It. No word yet on just exactly what he’ll be doing on stage, but it’s probably safe to assume there will be at least a little bit of this:

Up Close And Personal With The New Captain Kirk

p1193044.JPGIf there’s one thing we Star Trek fans may want to get our hands on more than a decent picture of the new Enterprise, it’s a good look at the new guy who thinks he’s going to play Captain Kirk.

His name is Chris Pine, and unless you’re willing to go out and rent the awful movie he made with Lindsay Lohan a few years ago (and trust me, it’s not worth it), then your first place to get a feel for what he’s all about will be in the upcoming movie Bottle Shock. In it, he plays the son of Bill Pullman, a California wine maker. Pine sports long, flowing locks and spends much of the movie getting drunk, smoking pot, and looking damned pretty.

Our friends over at Cinema Blend got a chance to meet Chris up close and personal at the Sundance Film Festival this year. Their assessment: A nice guy who inexplicably wore a belly shirt. No really. The guy’s t-shirt, for some reason, didn’t cover his belly button. Maybe if my belly button was that chiseled I’d want to show it off too.
