Let’s Be Cops Director To Take A Slingshot To 1980s Style Sci-Fi

Let's be CopsLet’s Be Cops was something of a surprise hit this past summer. Despite getting just brutal reviews (it didn’t even screen for press in many cities before hand, screenings were scheduled but cancelled last minute) it still raked in $82 million stateside and more than $125 million globally. Against a $17 million dollar budget, that’s not too bad a showing. It also earned director Luke Greenfield some sway, and now he’s going to direct an original sci-fi film for Warner Bros. called Slingshot.

The project is described as being an homage to the 1980s style sci-fi films like Back to the Future, E.T., and Steven Spielberg’s other genre films from that era. These are reportedly the movies that made Greenfield want to become a filmmaker in the first place. Beyond that, however, there’s not too much in the way of details available about Slingshot.

Watch Jean-Luc Picard Curse Up A Storm In These Next Generation Bloopers

If you’ve always wanted to see Jean-Luc Picard swear or Commander William Riker chase an ensign down a hallway, today is your lucky day. This new video is a gag reel from season 7 of Star Trek: The Next Generation and gives you a different kind of look at the normally so prim and proper crew of the Starship Enterprise. Apparently things were not always so serious on set.

Coming from UPROXX, this footage is just a part of the bonus features that will arrive with the Blu-ray release of the seventh and final season of The Next Generation. The whole video is less than a minute long, but it’s totally worth it just to see Patrick Stewart curse as Gates McFadden’s Dr. Beverly Crusher stomp on his foot. And it just drives home the idea you probably already have in your head that the cast and crew had a really good time making The Next Generation. They always look like they’re having so much fun.

Big and ambitious in every way, viewers have fallen all over the spectrum in regards to how they feel about film, and whether certain element work for them or not. Problematic as it may be, one thing everyone agrees on is that it is an absolutely stunning movie to watch, especially on an IMAX screen. We’ll try to keep it to a minimum, but better safe than sorry. But if you have seen the film, you’ll recognize what these images are trying to communicate immediately.

The Planet Of The Apes Franchise Is Going Big, Here’s How

DawnApesEven before Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was a rousing box office success and garnered Oscar talk for Andy Serkis, though his performance is all motion capture, we already knew that we were going another installment in the revamped franchise. Planet of the Apes 3 is already scheduled for release on July 29, 2016, and we couldn’t be more pumped. But that may not be all we have to look forward to.

While many expected the third film to be the close of a trilogy, it’s looking like there may be much more in store. Talking to MTV, Serkis had a lot to say about the next chapter in the Apes saga. He started off talking about the as yet untitled next installment, and what it might look like. For those expecting to a significant jump forward in time, it doesn’t look like we’re going to see a world completely dominated by intelligent apes just yet.
