Many of the Game of Thrones women worked on other projects during filming and have a bunch of new projects lined out. Take a look at what’s coming up for these actresses and where you can find them on the big screen.
Maisie Williams Became A Mutant
The face behind the faceless character Arya Stark has grown up in front of our eyes. She went from an unsure little girl into one of the strongest characters on the show. When Maisie was cast, she had no acting credits to her name. Now, she’s starred in numerous film and television shows.
One of her post-Game of Thrones projects was portraying the mutant Wolfsbane (Rahne Sinclair) in The New Mutants, a spin-off of X-Men.
Sophie Turner Also Became An X-Men Mutant
Just like her co-star and real-life BFF Maisie, Sophie Turner has made a name outside of Game of Thrones in the X-Men franchise. In 2016 she took on the role of Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse, and played the lead in the 2019 film X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
She also starred in the mini-series Joan.
Gwendoline Christie Is An Action Movie Star Now
Before she was cast as Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones, Gwendoline Christie struggled to find acting jobs due to her 6-foot, 3.5-inch height. After her GoT debut, she became a star in various action franchises and has had roles in both The Hunger Games and Star Wars franchises.
Emilia Clarke Has Many Projects In Production
Emilia Clarke’s portrayal of Queen Daenerys Targaryen was so powerful that people actually named their children after her. Emilia found it hard to say goodbye to the character she’s had many new projects to keep her busy.
She played the lead character Kate in the British rom-com Last Christmas. She also found her way into the Star Wars franchise with the role of Qi’ra.
Lena Headey Is Just Adding To Her Success
The actress who played Cersei Lannister had been on the acting scene since the ’90s. Lena Headey has starred in 300: Rise of an Empire, and The Purge. Since Game of Thrones, her fame has just continued to rise.
She portrayed the English professional wrestler Julia Bevis, also known as Saraya Knight, in Fighting With My Family.
Carice Van Houten Will Return To The Silver Screen In 2019
Carice van Houten gained critical recognition for playing Melisandre AKA The Red Woman in Game of Thrones. She made her final appearance in “The Battle Of Winterfell” where she gave her life to defeat the Night King.
Since the show ended, she starred in the independent film The Glass Room and alongside fellow Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in Domino.
We’re Waiting To See What’s Next For Nathalie Emmanuel
Nathalie Emmanuel played Missandei, the interpreter and best friend of Daenerys Targaryen. Her character made it all the way to the fourth episode of season eight but died mercilessly at the hands of Cersei.
While filming Game of Thrones, she was also starring in the action franchise Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and the film Furious 7.
Hannah Murray Found Fame Before Game Of Thrones
Game of Thrones fans best know Hannah Murray for playing Gilly. While the role brought her international recognition, the British actress was well-known beforehand for starring as Cassie Ainsworth in Skins from 2007-2008.
Hannah kept busy during her time on Game of Thrones. She starred in nine films including Dark Shadows, The Numbers Station, The Chosen, and Charlie Says. Hannah has also appeared on stage, in music videos, and on the radio.

Natalie Dormer stole our hearts as the beautiful and cunning Margaery Tyrell. After her character was burned alive by wildfire in season six, she’s kept busy on television, film, and even as a writer.
Since leaving Game of Thrones, Natalie starred in and wrote the 2018 film In Darkness. In 2019, she starred in The Professor and the Madman and also joined the cast of the television series Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.
Gemma Whelan Spends More Time On Teleivison Than In Film
While many Game of Thrones characters have ventured into film after the show, Gemma Whelan—who played Yara Greyjoy—has stuck to television. Between 2010 and 2019, Gemma has made appearances on 29 other television shows. Fans can still catch her on Almost Royal, Upstart Crow, and Horrible Histories.
Along with being a trained actor, Gemma is also a professional tap and jazz dancer, as well as a mezzo-soprano singer. She has appeared in numerous musical theatre productions.
Michelle Fairley Is Set For Her Next TV Series
Like many Game of Thrones actresses, Michelle Fairley had a well-established career before being cast as Catelyn Stark. The British actress has performed in film, television, and theatre.

Natalia Tena Is Focusing On Her Music
Natalia Tena has infiltrated two of the biggest fantasy franchises in Britain. She played Nymphadora Tonks in the Harry Potter franchise and wildling Osha in Game of Thrones. Despite having two major roles, Natalia hasn’t acted much outside of the franchises.
Instead, she prefers to focus on her music. She is the lead singer and accordionist of the band Molotov Jukebox. Despite her love of music, you can still catch her in the YouTube science fiction series Origin.
Sibel Kekilli Is An Up And Coming German Actress
Sibel Kekilli rose to prominence with the role of Shae in Game of Thrones. Sibel began acting in 2004 with the German-Turkish film Head-On and but had to wait seven years to land the role of Shae.
Since her character died at the hands of her former lover, Sibel has starred on the German police drama Tatort. In 2019, she was part of an ensemble cast of the film Berlin, I Love You. Basically, unless you speak German, you probably won’t see much of her around.
Oona Chaplin Is Acting In The Next Two Avatar Films
Oona Chaplin played Talisa Maegyr, the wife of Robb Stark who died tragically during “The Red Wedding.” While we wished her character had stayed around longer, she seems to be onto even bigger things. In June 2017, Oona signed on to the cast of James Cameron’s Avatar sequels.
Oona’s character Varang will appear in the next three Avatar movies. Varang is said to be a “strong and vibrant” character much like Talisa Maegyr.
Nell Tiger Free Has A Big Career Ahead
Nell Tiger Free was the young actress who portrayed Myrcella Baratheon in seasons five and six of Game of Thrones. Nell originally replaced Aimee Richardson for the role and played her death out in a dramatic fashion.
Game of Thrones isn’t the show that Nell got her start on though. She’s also well known for playing Chloe Crumb in the film version of Mr. Stink. In 2019, she starred in the film Wonderwall and the television series Servant.
Expect Many New Films From Indira Varma
Thrones fans couldn’t decide to love or hate the charming and conniving character Ellaria Sand. The Queen of Dorne was finally killed off the show in 2017 but Indira Varma has not slowed down since. In 2019, she starred in Official Secrets, The One and Only Ivan, and Dreamland.
Indira is also well known for other television series such as The Canterbury Tales, Bones, Human Target, Luther, and the ITV/Netflix series Paranoid.
Faye Marsay Is Much More Than A Waif
Game of Thrones fans saw a lot of actress Faye Marsay in seasons five and six when she portrayed The Waif. If you recall, that was the blonde woman who was helping to train Arya to become Faceless.
Since her role came to an end, Faye has been busy on several different television series and film. In 2016, she starred in an episode of Black Mirror and in 2019 she played a leading role in the short film Seconds Out. She also had a role in the Star Wars series Andor.
