CD Projekt Red is currently enjoying quite a bit of recent success as of late. While the developer had come under tons of fire in the past for the absolute messy launch of Cyberpunk 2077, they seemed to have quelled any of the previous anger by releasing a next-gen update for the game for free. The updates for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 rolled out on February 15th. The update served as a refresh of sorts for the game. Now it seems that they are not done with their 2022 updates and announcements. The Witcher 4 is officially on the way, and a first-look image has been added to the announcement. You can see the Twitter update below:

Fans of the series will notice that the wolf medallion that Geralt wears is firmly tucked into the snow, only it seems to look slightly different than the one that we all know. The glowing red eyes add another element of shock to the image. The simple words “a new saga behind” have been added as a tagline for the announcement. While the game is aptly titled The Witcher, it may just be the fourth installment in the video game franchise, though it has not yet been designated as The Witcher 4. This may be due to CD Projekt Red also announcing that the new game will be using the Unreal Engine 5 versus the REDending technology that the studio has used since The Witcher 2.

CD Projekt Red has also announced their partnership with Epic Games, which have developed the Unreal Engine 5. While the studio seems to be transitioning to UE5 for the new The Witcher 4 game, they are said to still be using their REDending technology for the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion. This might also be the case for the long-awaited The Witcher 3 net-gen update that fans have been clamoring for as well.

With the announcement of The Witcher 4, one might wonder what is to become of Geralt? Though he was the main protagonist in The Witcher 3, there is no telling if he returns to form in the new installment. The studio announcement is that of a new saga, so it could mean that the game is set to take on a whole new set of characters that have not been shown before. That, or it means that we are going to see a brand-new trilogy of games dedicated to the deep storyline of Geralt. Either way, this is a massive announcement that is sure to set the internet on fire.

The Witcher 4 announcement is on the heels of the massive popularity of the Netflix series that shares The Witcher name. Henry Cavill currently stars as the ever-popular Geralt of Rivia in the series. This is just a wild theory, but what if this new saga of games were to incorporate Cavill as the voice of Geralt in both the show and video game. He is a nerd of epic proportions, and it would be the complete fan service to allow his role as Geralt to expand into other mediums. This is just an idea, but if you’re reading this CD Projekt Red, make it happen.
