Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game has just revealed a new trailer that provides a much closer look at the eponymous killer Klowns—as if Pennywise wasn’t enough. The game’s developer, Teravision Games, has revealed all five playable classes and their weapons in the trailer, as well as fresh details on the various class abilities and respective playstyles. The upcoming game is based on the cult classic film of the same name from 1988, hopefully continuing the new trend of high-budgeted gaming adaptations.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game is set to follow the footsteps of other popular horror-based releases, such as Dead by Daylight—which recently crossed over with Resident Evil. The latter performed very well when it came to incorporating horror elements within the action gameplay, but instead of killer zombies, Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game is focused on something that Steven King believes terrifies both children and adults—clowns. Luckily for the fans of Manhunt and other gore-fest games, players will be able to play as Killer Klowns as well.

In fact, players will be able to play as a team of Killer Klowns wielding some clown-centric weapons and a pretty wide range of abilities. Likewise, players can opt to play as citizens of Crescent Cove and collaborate to save themselves from the menacing clowns. Admittedly, the freshly dropped trailer doesn’t go into specifics of how each class plays, but it does offer general information and a closer look at the Klowns and their horrific weapons of choice. The character models are really well-detailed and utterly grotesque, adding another layer of horror.

For example, all Killer Klowns in Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game have realistically textured skin, which is juxtaposed by their toy-like weapons, which only reveals the tone of the game. We can expect the gameplay to unfold as the inside of the Joker’s mind—a mixture of insane carnival antics blended with unnerving horrors of psychopathic and apparently alien entertainers with a desire to kill their prey in probably the most innovative and creative ways possible.

Those interested in playing Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game can still sign up for an open beta. They’ll also have the chance to try out the 3v7 format, along with respawn systems and dynamic objectives. The 3v7 system is perhaps the most interesting thing about the game. Games such as Dead by Daylight usually feature one monster per game, but the Klowns apparently took a slightly different approach. Dead by Daylight is currently the dominant game on the market, and Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game seems like a game that might challenge that position.

The game is an adaptation of the same-name film called Killer Klowns from Outer Space, which was released in 1988. The movie was actually very well received and has achieved the status of a cult classic, so a gaming adaptation regarding evil clown-resembling human-hunting aliens seems like something audiences might like. It might even get a spinoff similar to the one Dead by Daylight got.
