See The New Warframe Game That Is Vastly Different From The Original

Warframe is a free-to-play action role-playing third-person shooter MMO which released to mixed reviews but skyrocketed in popularity post-release, becoming one of the most-played games available on Steam. Just a few days ago, the game’s developer, Digital Extremes, showcased some of the new content for the game and made a surprising announcement: the developer is currently working on another free-to-play MMORPG called Soulframe.

Now, before we dive into details about the Warframe’s new sibling, it’s worth pointing out that, despite the similarities in their respective names, the recently announced Soulframe is in no way connected to the Warframe title. But there are some similarities between the two, as reported by Kotaku. Warframe is a fast-paced shooter game set in Earth’s far future, whereas Soulframe is likely going to take the opposite end of the time spectrum as a Fantasy game with an emphasis on melee combat rather than ranged weaponry. Considering that Warframe is over a decade old now, Digital Extremes’s decision to work on a new title and even have some of the Warframe developers scooting over on the project isn’t all that surprising. Now, we have to admit, the new game retained some elements we’ve seen in Warframe, but what’s interesting is that it appears like a mixture of Warframe’s core elements heavily influenced by the latest Elden Ring gaming title, leading us to believe that Digital Extremes really liked playing FromSoftware’s latest release.

Admittedly, the combination of the two sounds really exciting; Elden Ring is this year’s best-selling gaming title, and mixing the fast-paced Warframe elements with fantasy elements of Elden Ring to create a grandiose fast-paced fantasy narrative sounds like something that would appeal to the gaming community. However, while we can’t disregard the similarities with the aforementioned gaming title, Digital Extremes’ director Steve Sinclair says the inspiration for the title is derived from works like Princess Mononoke and The NeverEnding Story.

There are some interesting ideas behind the upcoming Warframe-like game, like the open-world setting and the associated mechanics. According to the developer, the grounds underneath will shift throughout the day, leading to procedurally generated areas in the game’s open-world hub. This will allow the in-game world to shift around the player, leading to more immersion. For example, when you log in, you’ll be at the same place at which you logged off, but the world around you will be different to a lesser or greater degree.

This will instill a feeling that the in-game world has been going on without you present in the game, and that’s partly because it has. There aren’t many games on the market that offer this level of immersion besides day-and-night cycles, and Warfame’s sibling aims to break ground with this increasing immersion feature. The project is still in very early development, and the developing team hopes to get at least some gameplay previews to fans within a year.

Unfortunately, no other detail pertaining to the recently announced game is available at this point, but we’ll keep the fandom updated on the Warframe-like game’s development as it goes on.
