Following our report about the new game in the Mortal Kombat gaming series resetting everything again, some additional rumors fell off the rumor mill, suggesting the appearance of some of the bloodiest crossover characters that might actually fit well within the franchise. It would seem that NetherRealm’s open teasing about the next game in the series has opened up the leaking floodgates, and the rumors are pouring in. One such rumor, reported by Eurogamer, states that the upcoming Mortal Kombat might get Homelander from The Boys and Peacemaker from DC Comics as part of the game’s character pass.

And truth be told, both characters would be a nice and appropriate addition to the upcoming Mortal Kombat 12/Mortal Kombat 1 game since they’re both pretty gruesome in terms of inflicting physical violence, and they have become quite popular characters within their respective franchises and among the audiences.

the boys season 4
Homelander

For those unacquainted with Homelander, he’s one of the main antagonists of the comic book series The Boys. The comic (and its primary antagonist) was brought to the mainstream by the Amazon TV series adaptation of the same name, which actually became one of the biggest hits on streaming media. The character is actually a parody of Superman, which makes him more than capable of holding his own in the upcoming Mortal Kombat game—which is probably never going to get an official Superman since he’s starring in the Injustice gaming series.

peacemaker season 2
Peacemaker

As for the Peacemaker, he’s actually from DC Comics and has made his live-action debut in The Suicide Squad—the better one—as a vigilante willing to do just about anything to achieve peace, even if that also includes acts of unspeakable physical violence. This makes Peacemaker’s appearance in Mortal Kombat that much more appropriate, given the absurd quantities of violence associated with the character. And though he might’ve been a bad guy in the movies, his HBO Max television show was actually very well received by the audiences.

The Mortal Kombat gaming series isn’t a stranger to guest characters, and we’ve been lucky to get a whole slew of different guest characters over the years, including both the Predator and Alien from their respective same-name franchises, but also Terminator, Robocop, John Rambo, and the Joker. But that’s not the end of the list; there are also Spawn, Freddy Krueger, and even Kratos from the God of War’s Greek Saga. So, it’s not really outside the realm of possibilities to have Peacemaker and Homelander appear in the upcoming game.

Unfortunately, the details surrounding the upcoming Mortal Kombat are still very scarce. NetherRealm has begun teasing the piece, and while the developer has teased a reboot of the series’ timeline, which was already indicated in Mortal Kombat 11, the reset could also imply a remake of the original Mortal Kombat. The latter wouldn’t be as surprising, considering that we’re living in an era of reboots and remasters, and NetherRealm’s bread and butter consist of them resetting their narratives’ timelines over and over again.

The next Mortal Kombat game still doesn’t have a release date, but it’s likely to drop on PS5, Xbox Series console, and PC.
