The long-awaited and highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 finally received a release year. And though it may not sound like a big deal, the game, whose arrival was speculated beyond 2025, might actually drop as early as next year. This is truly big news considering that previous reports suggested that the game was stuck in development hell due to its overwhelming length, which was apparently the cause of its biggest problem.

According to IGN, Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two Interactive might’ve teased the game’s release for next year in a press release regarding its projected earnings for fiscal 2025—which begins in 2024. To be entirely honest, Take-Two didn’t specifically name Grand Theft Auto 6, but the company did mention entering Fiscal 2025 by launching several groundbreaking titles which the company believes will set new standards in the industry and allow the gaming giant to make over $8 billion in Net Bookings.

So, while the company hasn’t named Grand Theft Auto 6 exclusively, it’s really hard to imagine any other franchise in its opus allowing the company to achieve $8 billion. Two-Take made some $5.3 billion in its past fiscal year, mostly contributed to Zynga—a major mobile developer—the publisher acquired last year. So, to achieve a massive leap as the one the company projected, it would either have to acquire several third-party developers, release several triple-AAA games, or a single, massive, highly-anticipated gaming title such as Grand Theft Auto 6.

And while the latter is the most desirable and likeliest of outcomes, the readers should take this information with a grain of salt. Without Take-Two confirming that at least one of those groundbreaking titles is actually Grand Theft Auto 6, everything’s speculation. Everything remotely associated with Grand Theft Auto 6 was already speculated even before the game’s development was officially announced, and people discussed GTA 6’s setting and speculations about it being a Vice City sequel.

It has been really hard to stop the speculation mill ever since the massive Grand Theft Auto 6 leak, which revealed several highlights from the upcoming game. Both the fandom and the industry have been talking about the game before the material leaked, so the numbers of speculations and unverified rumors doubled after the leak was made—which is to be expected; the internet is a sea of unverified information in which those thirst of knowledge drown, and this is particularly true when it comes to highly-anticipated entertainment media.

In the end, if Take-Two and Rockstar really plan to release the game next year, it’s entirely possible that we’ll receive some official word about Grand Theft Auto 6 in the coming months. An insider rumor from one of the industry’s regular players, an interview clip, perhaps a Scarface-style teaser, or even a full-blown trailer announcement at the Summer Game Fest, which is only 20 days away. At the time of writing, Grand Theft Auto 6 is speculated to launch in 2024; unfortunately, this information hasn’t been officially confirmed.
