Following the announcement for the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, titled Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt RED also released a free update for the current version of the game, called Edgerunner Update. Patch 1.6 has finally arrived and introduced a bunch of gameplay improvements and additional content, which is inspired by the upcoming Netflix animated adaptation of the game, called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, scheduled to release on September 13.

According to IGN, the scope of new content is massive, and we’re not talking about the story expansion — that will become available in 2023. We’re actually talking about gaming features that enhance the Cyberpunk 2077 gaming experience and grant extensive player creativity, additional weapons, additional gigs, an arcade game, and the long-awaited cross-progression system. The latter, however, comes with certain limitations, which we’ll cover in the later section of our report.

One of the most requested features for Cyberpunk 2077 was the clothing transmogrification system, usually abbreviated by the gaming community as “transmog.” This is a prevalent feature in most high-budget gaming titles, which allows you to change the appearance of your wardrobe (or armor in other games) without affecting the stats of said garments. It allows gamers to choose whatever visual style they want while still keeping the bonuses associated with the equipped gear — which is quite significant once you reach end-game content and gain access to top-tier gear.

Cyberpunk 2077’s transmog system will allow gamers to create six transmog outfits through V’s wardrobe in the protagonist’s apartment or various safehouses. These will be saved as “presets,” which will allow gamers to always maintain or switch their aesthetics with ease via the Inventory panel. The new outfit has to be complemented with the appropriate firepower, which is why CD Projekt RED has added 11 additional weapons to the game, including a chainsword — a mix of a chainsaw and a sword meant for cutting things while you’re already cutting things.

Testing out a new chainsword on old content wouldn’t do the Edgerunner Update justice, which is why the developers have also added three new Gigs to Cyberpunk 2077 to additionally enhance the gaming experience and provide an additional smidge of new content for the final update of the previous-gen version of the game. While those are sad news for owners of PS4 and Xbox One, the game finally received its cross-progression system, which automatically updates the player’s progression to the cloud, allowing them to resume their gaming experience on a different platform.

However, the feature will be limited to certain console versions, with regional restrictions excluding Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Japan. Apart from that, the new DLC also has several other tie-ins with the upcoming anime show and guarantees a whole host of new gear and items, like the new jacket mirroring the one worn by the series’ protagonist. And as if that wasn’t enough, the new arcade game within Cyberpunk 2077, titled Roach Race — an obvious reference to the Witcher’s horse — will also be available, offering plenty of rewards to players who complete it.
