Cyberpunk 2077 had arguably the worst launch in the history of video games. The game was one of the most anticipated, even after teasing fans about its construction back in 2012. A trailer for the game was released back in 2013. After years of development, and showcases at E3 in 2018 and 2019, the game was finally to be released in December of 2020. However, that launch was marred with issues, with people on PS4 and Xbox One claiming the game was just simply unplayable. This resulted in CD Projekt Red offering mass amounts of refunds, and even taking the game from the PlayStation store. After several updates, and a new console generation later, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S were surprisingly gifted with a new-gen update, which all but overhauled the game. A new wave of people is now playing the game in the manner in which it should have run. Let’s look at what’s new in Cyberpunk 2077 and how to avoid the bad ending.

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

The good is that the Cyberpunk 2077 next-gen update launched in February of 2022. What the game brought with was a host of issues fixed. Back in the PS4 days, I couldn’t even get past the opening prologue part in which V is caught in a car chase and tossed a gun. This game-breaking bug just made me give up. Something told me to hang in there, which I did, and now the game is truly phenomenal. On top of the game loading faster than it ever has before on the solid-state drives within the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, it looks amazing. The entire graphics have been upped to keep up with the capabilities that PC players have been able to experience, but now for consoles. Graphic updates also benefited the PC folks as well. These include adding a ray tracing and performance mode to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Ray tracing mode offers 30 fps at 4K resolution with locally cast shadows. Performance mode offers 60FPS at 4K resolution. Now if you happen to not avoid the Cyberpunk 2077 bad ending, you won’t be as depressed. It will look amazing at least.

A free DLC pack was also released as part of this next-gen update. This DLC update offered a ton of new elements to the game, some more secret than others. NPCs behave much more like A.I. in the game, and this includes relationships cultivated in the game. Now whoever V happens to fall in love with, will be more involved with the protagonist. This includes sending provocative pictures to V’s phone. NPC’s that you come across can also act as they do in GTA, meaning they will come after you if you steal their cars or mess with them in any way. Car chases between cops have also been added. A host of guns have new attachments to make gunplay that much better. Skill trees were altered to create a much different experience. Missions allow for more monetary gain, cars are cheaper to purchase, and motorcycles come with glowing wheel options. CD Projekt Red was hiding some fantastic secret elements all along. All these features truly make the game feel brand-new. Now, let’s get into how to avoid the Cyberpunk 2077 bad ending.

This next paragraph will contain massive spoilers. The game is said to have six endings, and this is how to avoid the Cyberpunk 2077 bad ending. The final mission is that of Nocturne Op55N1. When you see this mission, you are entering the end game moments and several things can happen. V has a virus that is killing him, and that contains the construct, Johnny Silverhand. Taking the omega blocker pills sees V keep control of his body, but then he will die as a result. If you choose the dialogue options that see V choose the “less blood side” of things, then you just commit suicide instead of taking Arasaka down. The option reads “Could also just put this to rest.” You toss away the pills that would see Silverhand go away, and you die side by side with Johnny instead by shooting yourself in the head. The harrowing thing about this ending is the messages from characters that you meet being shown to you during the end credits. Anyone you meet speaks their love for V in one final moment that is just gut-wrenching. This ending is really a message about those who might take their own lives and the lives that are forever altered as a result. Make sure to save before the final mission if you choose not to end the game this way.

Is Cyberpunk 2077 Worth Playing Now?

With all the improvements made to the game in the past nearly two years, the next-gen update truly brought this game experience up so many levels. For those who gave up as I did, jump back in right now and experience this futuristic epic as it was supposed to be played. The quality-of-life improvements make it so the experience in Night City is second to none. It looks great, plays great, and all the added elements make it feel like a new game that came out back in February. Even if you happen to have beaten the game, you can now experience the game in a new light for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Just make sure to avoid the Cyberpunk 2077 bad ending.
