Since Zendaya was a teenager, Spider-Man has played an important role in her life. The actress recently recalled that her first date included seeing The Amazing Spider-Man at a movie theater. At the time, the Marvel star had no idea she’d be starring in the new generation of web-slinger films alongside Tom Holland.

Zendaya made the revelation during her acceptance speech after being named Star of the Year at the 2023 CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards in Las Vegas. “My first date was when I was 15 years old, and it was to go see Spider-Man in 3D,” she said via The Hollywood Reporter while emphasizing the importance of movies in everyday life.

“In a theater, that’s where someone can feel seen. That’s where someone can feel less alone. That’s when someone can escape. That’s where someone can build a new dream,” Zendaya continued as she recounted her first date experience. The Spider-Man star, who believes her gift is storytelling, added, “it means nothing if those stories don’t get to the people they need to get to.”

In closing, Zedaya said she feels honored to buy a ticket and sneak into one of her own movies. “It’s so special because I get to watch what the movie-going experience does for people. It’s healing, magical, and I feel so grateful to be a part of it,” The Euphoria actress added before thanking everyone for the award.

Along with starring as MJ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Zendaya is also dating current Spider-Man Tom Holland. Although the couple prefers to keep their personal lives private, they have been more open about their relationship in recent years. Their relationship has been going strong since 2017, and despite their busy schedules, the pair continue to support each other’s careers.

Zendaya and the Spider-Man actor were recently spotted enjoying a date night at Usher’s Las Vegas residency show on April 27. They were seen singing along to various songs, with the actress sharing a video of their outing on her Instagram stories. In the clip, the Emmy Award winner expressed her excitement about fulfilling a childhood dream of seeing the R&B singer live.

Fans at the concert also captured footage of the Spider-Man stars sharing a warm hug during the outing. Holland was casually dressed in a green hoodie, while the actress looked chic in a tan halter dress and oversized glasses.

Although Marvel has revealed plans for more Spider-Man movies, they are not part of the studio’s immediate two-year plan. That means the couple won’t be working together for a while. However, both actors are keeping busy with exciting new projects. Zendaya is set to star in the sci-fi epic Dune: Part 2. The movie is directed by Denis Villeneuve from a script he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts.

The story sees Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) unite with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the people who destroyed his family. But he is soon forced to choose between the fate of the universe and the love of his life. The cast also includes Dave Bautista, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Souheila Yacoub, and Tim Blake Nelson.

Meanwhile, Tom Holland is producing and starring in the upcoming Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room, in which he plays a man with 24 different personalities. So fans have much to look forward to before seeing Zendaya reunite with her Spider-Man boyfriend on screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
