Zendaya just sets awards history and it's really a testament to the actress's talent and drive that she is in this group of celebrities
If there was anyone left in the world doubting Zendaya’s superstardom, take note. The 2022 Emmy award nominations are in and the Euphoria star has added to her list of accolades with a brand new record. As reported by Variety, Zendaya is now officially the youngest producing nominee in the history of the Emmys.
Zendaya, of course, picked up the producing nomination for the HBO smash hit drama Euphoria and added three other nominations along with it. As well as being the youngest producing nominee in Emmys history this year at the age of 25, Zendaya is also the youngest two-time lead acting nominee. Setting Emmy Award records is nothing new for the Spider-Man: No Way Home star. In 2020, Zendaya became the youngest lead actress drama winner at the age of 24 and followed Viola Davis as the second black woman to win the category (Davis won her award for her performance in How to Get Away With Murder).
In addition to Zendaya’s acting and producing nominations at this year’s awards, the actress/producer/singer/songwriter also picked up two nominations in the original music and lyrics category for “Elliot’s Song” and “I’m Tired”, both tracks that featured in the latest season of Euphoria. The Sam Levinson-created drama about a group of high school teens dealing with social issues such as sex, sexuality, drugs, and violence reached new heights this year with its second season, becoming the most-tweeted-about show of the decade so far. The show also received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Drama Series, Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Sydney Sweeney, Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Martha Kelly, and Guest Actor in a Drama Series for Colman Domingo.
In total, Euphoria tallied up an impressive 16 Emmy Nominations for this year’s award, with Zendaya telling Vanity Fair; “I’m overwhelmed,” after her four nominations. Elsewhere, another HBO drama, Succession, took the honor of bagging the most nominations, with 25 in total. The Emmy nominations have been hugely successful for HBO and HBO Max, with The White Lotus landing 20 nominations, Hacks grabbing 17, and Barry earning 14 nominations. 140 nominations in total were picked up between HBO and HBO Max, ahead of Netflix with 105 nominations and the likes of Hulu, which earned 58 nominations, 17 of those coming from Only Murders in the Building.
Before Zendaya can find out whether she will win any of her four Emmy nominations in the 74th Emmy Awards on September 12 on NBC and Peacock, the actress is busy filming future projects for audiences to enjoy. Zendaya is currently filming the follow-up to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune and has also been spotted on the set of Luca Guadagnino’s new Tennis drama Challengers just weeks ago. Both films are set to hit theatres next year and are more than likely to be two more impressive notches on Zendaya’s CV. Given how amazing Euphoria is, how breathtaking her performance of Rue has been and how great a singer/songwriter Zendaya is, who would bet against the young star picking up those four Emmys later this year?
