Zachary Levi may be well-known for his superhero role as Shazam over at DC, but we may be closer than ever to seeing him reboot his breakout role in Chuck. The fan-favorite spy show ran for five seasons between 2007 and 2012, and now Levi said that he’s ready to make a movie happen. Speaking to SiriusXM, Levi said, “I’ve been trying to make a Chuck movie since before we even finished the show,” adding, “Warner Brothers owns the rights to it, I’m in early talks with heads there to be like ‘Hey guys, you know, I’m now your superhero over at your Warner Brothers films, let me use that goodwill and let me go make this.” (via CBR)

Zachary Levi’s Chuck movie would need to get approved by Warner Bros. Discovery since they own the IP, but it sounds like his role as Shazam might give him some leverage for making it happen. Levi also mentioned that other co-stars from the show would be willing to return for more, but he didn’t specify which co-stars would include. At the very least, one would assume that Yvonne Strahovski would return as Sarah Walker.

Along with Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski, Chuck stars Adam Baldwin, Joshua Gomez, Sarah Lancaster, and Ryan McPartlin. The series was created by Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak and follows a computer geek whose brain gets embedded with the greatest spy secrets of the United States. It’s unclear if the original creators would be involved in a movie reboot, but it would make sense if they brought back as many of the original creatives as possible.

When Zachary Levi talks about fans of Chuck wanting to see a reboot, he’s not exaggerating. In fact, the fans saved the show from being canceled by mounting a campaign and convincing NBC to bring it back for a third season. Though future seasons were also uncertain, NBC ended up bringing it back for a fourth and fifth season before finally ending it.

The unique part about the fan campaign to bring back the show was that they tried to convince the Subway sandwich chain to help bring it back since the chain sponsored the show. This led to a major deal between NBC and Subway, with Subway helping to front the cost of another season. If Zachary Levi really wants to bring Chuck back for a movie, maybe he should talk to Subway while he’s at it.

It might be a little while before we see Zachary Levi’s Chuck movie come to fruition, but until then, fans can see him as a different kind of hero in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The sequel sees Levi reprising the role of the titular hero as he and his family face off against the daughters of Atlas — Hespera (Helen Mirren), Kalypso (Lucy Liu), and Anthea (Rachel Ziegler). The David F. Samberg-directed film also stars Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, D.J. Cotrona, Grace Caroline Currey, Meagan Good, and Djimon Hounsou.

You can see Shazam! Fury of the Gods in theaters now. You can also see Zachary Levi in Chuck on HBO Max. The streaming platform has all five seasons available.
