As Yellowstone fans will know, Lainey Wilson made her series debut as Abby during the season five premiere. She later talked to USA Today about her first time filming a television show romance scene. “I didn’t really know what I was doing,” she told the publication. But despite her inexperience, she wanted to give people their money’s worth and gave the role everything she had. She also told her parents to skip the episode due to its steamy nature.

“I don’t want to be on their prayer list,” Yellowstone debutant Lainey Wilson explained. The 30-year-old also attributes her role as Abby to series and spinoff creator Taylor Sheridan. As a longtime supporter, he used her song “Working Overtime” in the first episode of season two, before the singer had a recording contract. Since then, her songs were often featured in Paramount series. Then Sheridan took it up a notch and created Abby specifically for the country star.

Sheridan essentially wanted Yellowstone to feature Lainey Wilson as her real self, which the singer says worked to her advantage since she was still trying to introduce herself to people. “All I got from him at that time was that I would play a musician who would fall in love with one of the boys. He didn’t even tell me which one,” the 30-year-old explained. Although her first scene was opposite Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton added to the pressure, the series veteran was supportive.

“We got along great,” the singer said. “She even gave me some handmade bath salts.” During her debut scene in Yellowstone Abby (Lainey Wilson) said she would never to date a cowboy. But the sparks between the show’s newest character and Ryan turned into a blazing fire as season five progressed.
