Paramount+ has big plans to keep the Dutton family saga going for a very long time. The streamer ordered more episodes of 1883, the first prequel series which concludes its 10 episode run on February 27th. More information about these new episodes is expected to be revealed at a later date. But it has been confirmed that they will debut later this year. During the Investors Day event, plans for a second Yellowstone prequel series called 1932 were also revealed.

Described as the next chapter of the Yellowstone origin story, 1932 will follow a new generation of Duttons during the time of Western Expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression. This news comes after the Yellowstone flagship series was also renewed for a fifth season. The cast and release date for 1932 were not announced since the project is still in the very early stages of development.

Speaking about the Yellowstone 1932 expansion, President and CEO of ViacomCBS Media Networks Chris McCarthy said while most shows franchise near the end of their run, they seized the opportunity to franchise in real-time to foster success for both streaming and cable properties. The company also delivered news about other projects that creator-producer Taylor Sheridan has in the works under his pact with MTV Entertainment Studios, via Variety. This includes Land Man, starring Billy Bob Thornton, which is a modern-day Texas tale set in the world of oil rigs.

Long before Yellowstone 1932, Taylor Sheridan and John Linson created the original drama series which premiered in 2018 on the Paramount Network. Yellowstone follows the Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in the United States. The plot revolves around family drama and the conflict with the bordering Native reservations, national parks, and land developers. It stars Kevin Costner, Wes Bentley, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Cole Hauser, and Gil Birmingham. The first season received mixed reviews, but fans couldn’t get enough of the Duttons, and ratings for subsequent seasons improved dramatically.

Due to its success, the spin-off prequel series 1883 was created and debuted on the Paramount+ streaming service in December 2021. The story examines the first members of the Dutton family to journey to Montana, and how they came to own Yellowstone Ranch. It stars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Sam Elliott, Isabel May, LaMonica Garrett, Marc Rissmann, Audie Rick, Eric Nelsen, and James Landry Hébert. To introduce 1883 to viewers, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill reprised their roles as James and Margaret Dutton in flashback scenes in the fourth season of Yellowstone to show what life was like on the Dutton ranch at that time.

Speaking about introducing the spin-offs with the original series, Chief Programming Officer at Paramount Streaming, Tanya Giles said promoting the series through linear sampling on the Paramount Network during their latest record-breaking season of Yellowstone further enabled the company to introduce Sheridan’s loyal audience to this fantastic new series. And thanks to the incredible storytelling and stellar performances behind 1883, Yellowstone 1932 is already being tapped as a future hit. Fans everywhere will certainly be looking forward to seeing more of the Duttons’ origin story.
