The upcoming second season of the hit Showtime series Yellowjackets has cast Supergirl’s, Nicole Maines. The series, which is premiering its second season in March, will be introducing a slew of new star power alongside its already highly talented cast according to a report from Slash Film. Maines is likely best known for her role as Nia Nal, AKA Dreamer, in the fourth season and beyond of The CW’s Supergirl

The Showtime series has received critical acclaim for its writing and excellent cast performances, including seven Emmy nominations for its first season alone. The show features a high school soccer team from New Jersey, the Yellowjackets, as they contend with the Canadian wilderness for over a year following a plane crash. Their adult lives over 25 years in the future are also shown and are impacted following the events of the crash.

Yellowjackets is said to have been influenced and loosely based on the true events of the Donner Party and the Andes flight disaster of 1972, in which a group of plane crash survivors was forced to resort to cannibalism in order to stay alive.

Maines is set to play a character named Lisa in Yellowjackets, working in association with Lottie, portrayed in her adult version by Simone Kessell. Lottie was last seen left in the woods scrapping for survival and is rumored to have started a cult among her Yellowjackets team members. Some fans have speculated with what little knowledge we have of Maine’s character that she may be a member of Lottie’s alleged cult.

Yellowjacket’s incredible cast is stacked with heaps of acting talent, featuring performances from Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, and Wednesday antagonist Christina Ricci. The show’s second season is also set to cast Elijah Wood as one of the Citizen Detectives, a vigilante group of true crime fans who often have the ability to sleuth hidden information from the internet, sometimes including hacking into people’s private information. Of all the items fans had on their 2023 bingo sheet, a Supergirl crossover with The Hobbit probably wasn’t one of them, but it’s highly welcome!

Nicole Maines is already a trailblazer in her field, marked as the very first person to portray a transgender superhero in a live-action television show as Dreamer in Supergirl. Before being cast in the upcoming second season of Yellowjackets she also starred in Bit, a horror movie about female vampires, which won her the highest acting accolade from the Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival. Maines also wrote the comic book debut of her Supergirl character during DC Pride #1 back in 2021, before continuing to write comics featuring Dreamer in both solo arcs and crossovers into mainstream Superman stories.

As for what the Supergirl star will bring to Yellowjackets, we’ll just have to wait and see, though fans are likely gripping the edges of their seats in anticipation of the March premiere. The second season is already rumored to be even more shocking than the first, and that’s quite a tall order from a show so intense and disturbing you can’t look away.
