The pandemic-related delays to film sets have made it very confusing what projects are still happening and which ones have been dropped. On top of that, productions are suddenly ramping up, so new news is coming out at an exciting pace. It can be a lot to keep up with. So if you didn’t believe that John Wick 4 was still happening, you would be forgiven. However, all signs indicate that while it’s not going to meet its original release date, Keanu Reeves is still on board and that movie is coming. And now, according to sources for The Illuminerdi, Wesley Snipes has been offered the opportunity to make it a whole lot cooler by joining up for the film.

Wesley Snipes was a natural choice for the role, since, according to what The Illuminerdi hears, his character will be a sword-wielding fighter. As an action star veteran, Snipes is more than capable of joining up with Keanu Reeves for such a role. He learned to fight with swords on screen in his work for the Blade films.

If Wesley Snipes accepts his role, he’ll be joining an awesome cast so far. Along with Keanu Reeves, we can now expect to see Laurence Fishburne picking back up in his role as The Bowery King. John Wick 4 will be the first feature film for Rina Sawayama, who has a history as a singer. Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson, and Bill Skarsgård have all been confirmed for the movie, which will actually begin filming soon.

Wesley Snipes likely doesn’t have much time to make his decision about joining the cast. It’s been said that the movie will begin filming this summer and in multiple locations, including Paris, Japan, and New York City. While filming in multiple locations has been standard for Hollywood movies in the past, all of these locations makes production a lot more difficult post-COVID. Movies that moved in to production in 2020 prided themselves in filming in only one location. The John Wick 4 set will have complications ahead and be a serious undertaking, which may make this a bigger decision for the actor. Still, the franchise is right in the wheelhouse of what audiences love from Wesley Snipes, so hopefully he’ll be on board.

While John Wick 4 still has Keanu Reeves and the franchise’s long time director, Chad Stahelski, the franchise’s screenwriter, Derek Kolstad, is out for this one. Apparently, that wasn’t his decision. The writer told Collider that at a certain point, films like this grow too big. The studio recognizes that they can create the movie without you, and so they do. That doesn’t mean the writer hasn’t found other work. He has multiple projects in the pipeline and has worked on a few episodes of Falcon and the Winter Soldier for Disney+. Meanwhile, John Wick 4 will be using the talents of Michael Finch and Shay Hatten. Hatten worked on John Wick 3, so the potential Wesley Snipes movie is still in the hands of someone familiar with the franchise.

Right now, John Wick 4 is slated for a release date of May 27, 2022. Hopefully, though they are filming in multiple locations and still looking to fill out their cast, we’ll be able to see the movie in theaters at that time.
