The X-Men have been a huge talking point when it comes to the next stages of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and WandaVision has been at the center of a lot of that discussion since Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. Scarlet Witch is the sister of Pietro Maximoff a.k.a. Quicksilver, and that character already played a big role in the X-Men franchise. With Wanda playing a known role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans have been speculating that she would be the key to unlocking alternate realities and the multiverse for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well, the newest episode of WandaVision has confirmed that in a major way.

At the end of the fifth episode of WandaVision, titled “On a Very Special Episode…”, Wanda and Vision have an argument after Vision begins to realize what Wanda is doing. She says she is not controlling everything and then the doorbell to their house rings. Wanda says she didn’t make that happen, so she goes to the door and opens it. At first, we don’t see who it is, but then a shot of the back of their head all but confirms that the X-Men are going to play a huge part in the upcoming stretch of Marvel Cinematic Universe stories. This is what we see:

And fans everywhere know who that is. That has to be Quicksilver. But, the reverse shot reveals it not to be Aaron Taylor-Johnson who played Pietro in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but none other than the Evan Peters version of the character from the X-Men franchise of films. WandaVision has just made the multiverse official.

This version of the X-Men character does not seem to realize that he has come from an alternate dimension just yet. He greets Wanda as her long-lost brother and seems to be under the same kind of sitcom character mind control that Wanda is exerting over all the other residents of Westview. However, the fact that Quicksilver’s appearance seems to be a genuine surprise to Wanda means that whatever reality-bending effects she is using have spiraled out of her control. While the characters in WandaVision don’t know that the appearance of this Quicksilver means the multiverse is breaking open, we as audience members know this is a seismic event in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With the X-Men now formally a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the door has been blown wide open for WandaVision to get wild in regards to introducing audiences to the limitless possibilities of the multiverse. Obviously, Quicksilver’s inclusion is a deeply personal one for Wanda, but with her powers now out of her control, there is no telling what other kinds of shocking appearances we could see in the remaining episodes of the show.

No matter what, it is time to celebrate. The X-Men have used WandaVision to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We can guarantee this means many more mutants and other Marvel characters are about to stake their claim in this new era of Marvel stories.
