Topher Grace Responds To Returning For That 90s Show Spinoff
Topher Grace compared returning to the set of That 90's Show as feeling like "Christmas."
That 70s Show ran on the Fox network from 1998 to 2006 and made stars of the young ensemble cast that embodied a group of teenagers trying to survive high school, their parents, pot smoking, and the 1970s in general, including actors Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Danny Masterson, and Laura Prepon. The show was so successful that Netflix decided to reboot it in a way through a spin-off sequel series entitled That 90s Show, complete with a new young cast and some familiar faces. Topher Grace will be returning to his old character of Eric Forman in the new spin-off series, and he responded to the feeling of returning as, “Christmas.”
According to Topher Grace, “It was like going home for Christmas to see your whole family. It really was like Christmas. It was a gift. They are all such amazing, amazing people who are so influential in my life and who I became.”
Topher Grace compared his guest appearance on the upcoming Netflix series That 90s Show to that of Christmas is not a surprise, as the reunion with his onscreen parents seemed joyful for everyone involved. The show that Grace currently stars in, Home Economics, has been praised by the actor as feeling like a family, which he has stated was a similar vibe when he walked onto the set of That 90s Show as it was sort of a family reunion with former castmates. The new series is a sequel to the popular original and boasts that former actors will make appearances on the show in addition to Grace like Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Laura Prepon, and Wilmer Valderama.
That 90s Show may not actually star Topher Grace, but his guest appearance on the series will be welcomed by his television parents, who will be front and center when the new show starts streaming on Netflix soon. Actors Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith will again play Red and Kitty Forman on the new show, as they did for 200 episodes of the original series in the early aughts. The sequel series will feature a new generation of characters in addition to the elder Formans, as the show is set in 1995 and will focus on the Formans’ granddaughter and her adventures with teenagers she meets while visiting Wisconsin.
After Topher Grace found success on That 70s Show, he went on to larger film roles that saw him playing Eddie Brock, aka Venom, in Sam Raimi’s box office success Spider-Man 3, as well as lead roles in Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!, Christopher Nolan’s epic Interstellar with Matthew McConaughey, and Valentine’s Day opposite Anne Hathaway. For their part, the other cast members of That 70s Show found unbelievable success after the show ended in 2006, including Mila Kunis who starred with Kristen Bell in the Bad Moms movies, and Ashton Kutcher who starred with Natalie Portman in No Strings Attached, and Wilmer Valderrama who currently stars in the long-running CBS series NCIS. With That 90s Show preparing to stream on Netflix shortly, Topher Grace’s return to familiar territory may be a welcome surprise for fans looking for a bit of nostalgia, especially considering the original series went off the air more than 16 years ago.
There has not yet been a release date set for That 90’s show, but we are more than excited to see Topher Grace return along with series regulars: Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Laura Prepon, and Wilmer Valderrama.
