Spider-Man: No Way Home and Spider-Man: Far From Home are Sony’s two highest-grossing films of all time. With that said, it should come as no surprise that the studio is looking to spin more webs of cinematic thrills within the franchise. While speaking with Variety, producer Amy Pascal confirmed that a fourth Spider-Man movie is in the works, and it will once again feature the much-adored duo of Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones.

Pascal shared the Spider-Man 4 news with the outlet while attending Tuesday’s premiere of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in Los Angeles. Not only did she confirm that a fourth movie is underway with Tom Holland and Zendaya reprising their roles, but she also mentioned that Sony is hard at work on Beyond the Spider-Verse, set to be the third addition to the immensely successful animated film series, launching next year. In addition, Pascal dropped exciting announcements about two more projects in the studio’s pipeline: an animated Spider-Woman movie and a live-action film focusing on the character of Miles Morales.

While Sony is definitely moving forward with Spider-Man 4, with Tom Holland and Zendaya back on board, Pascal shared that progress on the fourth movie is taking a slower pace due to the ongoing writers’ strike. She said everybody involved with the project is supporting the writers at this time. Once things get settled on the front, she said production will get underway on the next installment.

Spider-Man: Homecoming, released in 2017, signified a fresh start for the Spider-Man franchise and featured the introduction of the web-slinging hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film introduced Tom Holland as the new face of Spider-Man and Zendaya as MJ, both of whom delivered impressive performances that resonated with audiences around the globe. The film was a huge commercial hit, grossing over $880 million worldwide and cementing the importance of Spider-Man within the MCU.

Sony released the sequel to Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, in 2019, with Tom Holland and Zendaya back as Spider-Man and MJ, respectively. Given its unique position as the first movie post-Avengers: Endgame and as a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, it predictably made a massive splash. The film even set a new record for Sony, raking in over $1.1 billion worldwide, making it the studio’s top earner at that point.

Of course, the success of Far From Home was eclipsed when Spider-Man: No Way Home emerged as a cinematic titan, becoming Sony’s most successful film in terms of revenue just a couple of years later. The movie, once again starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, showcased the pair’s undeniable on-screen chemistry. The movie’s astonishing worldwide gross of $1.9 billion cemented the Spider-Man series’ status as a crucial cornerstone in Sony’s cinematic lineup.

Considering the remarkable financial success of the Spider-Man series, headlined by Tom Holland and Zendaya, has brought to Sony, it’s clear that the studio is keen on setting the wheels in motion for Spider-Man 4 as quickly as possible. Spider-Man: No Way Home, with its array of unexpected twists and engaging moments, has upped the ante, making it a tough act for Sony to follow with the next movie. Still, the excitement is tangible – fans are on the edge of their seats, buzzing with anticipation for what surprises the studio has up its sleeve with the next installment.
