Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hits theaters on June 2, 2023, and the anticipation for the animated sequel has been heightened with the rumor that Tom Holland might appear in Spider-Verse 2 in a cameo. In a new interview with Empire Magazine (via The Direct), producer and co-writer Christopher Miller has addressed the rumors by saying “Anything is possible in the multiverse,” giving fans even more cause to assume a Marvel Cinematic Universe-based cameo is indeed in the works.

With multiverse crossovers and cameos all the rage in Marvel films now, having Spider-Verse 2 join the Multiverse Saga would make sense. We already know the film will feature a number of Spider-Man variants, so a Tom Holland appearance makes sense, and one could argue that Miller’s comments all but confirm it. If either Marvel Studios or Holland himself had balked at the idea, Miller would have wanted those rumors shut down to avoid a massive disappointment, so making a comment that teases the possibility all but confirms it, one could argue.

Tom Holland Spider-Verse 2 cameo rumors have hung over the production ever since it was announced, and this isn’t even the first time Miller has addressed it. He had previously said in an interview that the “Multiverse is big and wider” when asked about the possibility that the MCU and its characters could crossover. Co-writer Phil Lord also agreed, saying that it doesn’t make sense that in the Multiverse, “everything’s possible except for this one thing that everyone wants.”

Miller and Lord, who rose to fame as the creative minds behind The Lego Movie, don’t seem to have a problem with working a little fan service into their films, which is good news for fans hoping for Tom Holland to appear in Spider-Verse 2. They promise a “grand, epic story” in the sequel, and Holland’s Peter Parker would be right at home appearing in it.

Tom Holland’s possible Spider-Verse 2 cameo isn’t the only one fans are buzzing about. Internet rumors also claim Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire have been approached about cameos as well, giving fans a No Way Home reunion that we may not get in the live-action films moving forward.

If Tom Holland joins the sequel, it will be a packed storyline with his inclusion. It has already been confirmed that, in addition to the returning characters, a Spider-Man from an Indian-inspired Earth (Earth-50101), as well as Spider-Man 2099 (Miguel O’Hara), will appear in Spider-Verse 2. O’Hara will reportedly be leading a group of fighters – likely other Spider-Man variants – to fix the fallout from the Kingpin’s collider experiment and broke the Multiverse in the first film.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. Shameik Moore returns as Miles Morales, as does Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Jake Johnson as Peter Parker, and Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir. Oscar Isaac joins the cast as Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man 2099) and Issa Rae as Jessica Drew (aka Spider-Woman). Other cast members are expected to return, and we do know that Ben Reilly (aka the Scarlet Spider) will be in the film, based on merchandise that has already leaked. However, the actor voicing him has not been announced.
