Tom Holland has one of the most anticipated movies ever coming down the pike shortly. When he reprises his role of Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it will be a culmination of the wildly successful trilogy of films that is set to be groundbreaking in a number of different ways. But we know this actor isn’t all spandex and web-slingers. He’s got all kinds of acting and performing chops. Some of them are going to be on display in another role he’s got coming. Variety has it that Holland will star as Fred Astaire in a Sony biopic about the iconic dancer, singer, and talent.

Details about this Fred Astaire biopic from Sony are a bit light right now with Tom Holland telling reporters that he hadn’t even read the script yet. But the project has enough legs at this point to make the casting announcement official. And from what we know about Holland, this won’t be all that heavy a lift for the talented A-lister. He’s given us more than a few examples that not only can he handle the acting piece of this role, but the physical demands aren’t likely to give him all that much of a challenge either. He has a background in musicals and dancing already, something that’s been a bit on display in his turn as Peter Parker.

Tom Holland got his start on the stage when he was spotted dancing with his troupe all the way back in 2006. That led to him getting a role as the lead in Billy Elliott the Musical in London. During that time he also started training in gymnastics. There have been multiple examples of Tom Holland showing off some of the physicality needed for these roles with the actor taking part in challenges online over the years. But the dance piece should be no problem at all. He showcased some of that talent when he squared off against Spider-Man co-star Zendaya in a 2017 episode of Lip-Sync Battle. Check it out and see why Sony thinks he’ll have no problem pulling off the role of Fred Astaire.

Tom Holland taking on the role of Fred Astaire in this Sony film is an exciting prospect and should detail the story of one of the most famous entertainers of a generation. He began his career on the stage but entered iconic status thanks to his movie career alongside Ginger Rogers. Some of their movies included Shall We Dance, Carefree, Swing Time, Follow the Fleet, and Top Hat. They were among the most recognizable talents of a generation in the 1930s and 1940s. There is no word on who will play Rogers in this film.

Of course, before we get this Fred Astaire biopic, there’s the little story of Peter Parker we need to get first. Tom Holland as Parker/ Spider-Man is about to take a trip through the Multiverse in No Way Home. It’s set to be a blockbuster’s blockbuster with callbacks to the two previous iterations of the franchise. Bringing back villains like Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin among others has fans wildly speculating that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are back in the mix as well. It won’t be long until we know. Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to release on December 17th.
