Spider-Man: No Way Home

Tom Holland has one of the most anticipated movies in quite some time hitting screens this week, wrapping up a trilogy in what looks to be pretty epic style. Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to be a box office hit of the highest order and has taken some pretty groundbreaking leaps with its storytelling. With all the hype around the movie, it’s right to wonder what the future looks like for Holland in this universe. He might not be long for the role and recently opened up about his plans for life after playing the web-slinger. They don’t include swinging into new Marvel roles right away.

In an interview with People, Tom Holland talked about his time playing Spider-Man and what he thought he could do following this movie. From the discussion, it didn’t sound like playing Peter Parker was something he was itching to do right away, talking about how others might be better to step into the Spider-Man role in the near future. And with this, Tom Holland also discussed how he wanted to focus on starting a family while also stepping away from acting for the time being. Check out what he had to say:

“ I don’t want to say goodbye to Spider-Man — but I feel like we might be ready to say goodbye to Spider-Man…I would love to see a future of Spider-Man that’s more diverse — maybe you have a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman…I’ve spent the last six years being so focused on my career. I want to take a break and focus on starting a family and figuring out what I want to do outside of this world..I love kids. I can’t wait to be a dad.”

For his part, Tom Holland seems pretty focused on taking a substantial break from acting. This isn’t the first time he’s discussed stepping away from big-screen roles in the short-term, saying in recent months and weeks that he’s been in the entertainment business for such a long time, starting at a very early age. It would sure appear like he recognizes the need to distance himself from the grind and decide what the future holds. Between mentioning different versions of Spider-Man, and then explaining his desire to settle down and start a family, the actor has signaled that he might not be getting back into the Spider suit anytime soon.

But before he goes off and becomes a family man, we are going to get Tom Holland at least one more time in the Spider-Man suit. That’s going to be in Spider-Man: No Way Home which opens in theaters this Friday. It is set to be a massive blockbuster, rounding out the storyline for Holland as Parker following the character’s outing by Jake Gyllenhaal’s Quentin Beck/ Mysterio at the end of Far From Home. When Parker employs the help of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) they unwittingly open up the Multiverse and in steps the villains from different Spider-Man movie iterations. We are going to get Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin, Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, and Jamie Foxx as Electro among others.

And besides the Spider-Man franchise, Tom Holland is also set to star in Uncharted with Mark Wahlberg. It is based on the popular video game franchise of the same name. With a massive $120 million budget. The film faced significant delays because of the Covid-19 pandemic but is now set for a February 18, 2022 release. After that, it’s unclear what the movie industry holds for Tom Holland. It might be quite some time before we see him on the big screen again. The next big role could be as a father and family man.
