While it doesn’t seem like it’s been almost a year since Spider-Man: No Way Home, time has flown by and fans are eagerly awaiting news about star Tom Holland returning to the role. Newly rumored contract updates are giving some fans a glimpse of hope online though and everyone is speculating what the next installment could bring. Multiple entertainment insiders have taken to their keyboards to share social media posts seemingly confirming a new contract has been signed by the Marvel star.

Though Sony and Marvel have both said they want to make more Spidey films with Tom Holland, nothing has been set in stone yet. So what’s that mean for now? There’s been nothing confirmed and only rumors at the moment, but Lizzie Hill of The Cosmic Circus has given subtle hints, tweeting that she “hopes Tom Holland has a good day” along with a picture of the actor saying “I am Spider-Man.” User @Culture_Spider, another insider, threw fuel in the flames by retweeting her soon after.

The possibility of another trilogy starring Tom Holland has been thrown around, with even more speculation about his part in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Though a film of that magnitude without Spider-Man seems nearly impossible, what any further Spider-Man films could feature is anyone’s guess.

Spider-Man: No Way Home gave the Webhead a fresh start in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, freeing him up from battling cosmic and inter-dimensional threats to just patrolling the rooftops as the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The end of the trilogy, which also brought back previous Spider-men Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, serving as a capstone to his arc as an honorary Avenger and protege to Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark.

Tom Holland’s Peter Parker ended the last film where we’re all familiar with Spider-Man being- broke, poor, and depressingly penniless. The Wall Crawler was last seen swinging through the streets of New York with a new, homemade suit that abandoned all the Stark technology he’s had since (almost) his introduction in Captain America: Civil War. While Tom Holland’s Spidey has certainly faced his challenges and tribulations, he’s never had to do it with nobody to fall back on.

This raises another massive question for fans, causing rampant speculation- will this open up more street-level crossovers between Spidey and other Marvel heroes? Audiences have already seen Marvel’s willingness to mix things up, with No Way Home bringing back fan-favorite Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock only for him to show up in a whole new Daredevil suit during She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Could Tom Holland possibly team up with the Man Without Fear?

Another fan favorite from Daredevil fans are hoping to see share the screen with Tom Holland is Vincent D’onofrio’s Kingpin. The character was last seen in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. While there hasn’t been anything confirmed about plans for Kingpin and Spidey to crossover, the characters do have history in the comics, often getting into bouts that leave buildings with massive repair bills.

Again, though nothing is confirmed as far as Tom Holland’s future with the MCU, things are looking on the bright side. Contract negotiations are believed to be going well, Sony has a rumored spot in 2024 set, and there’s a wealth of setups for a new trilogy. From Daredevil crossovers, to setting up the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Miles Morales, the possibilities are out there for everyone’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man to have some new adventures that could never have happened in the previous trilogy.
