Tom Holland is one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood. As Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to smash box office records the Marvel star is promoting his latest offering, Uncharted. Adapted from the Naughty Dog video game of the same name, the film also stars Oscar-nominee Mark Wahlberg. And during their latest interview, the 25-year-old star admitted to making an embarrassing assumption about a gift he received from the veteran movie star.
Speaking to Access Hollywood, the Italian Job alum goaded Tom Holland into telling the story behind the gift. And it goes something like this… Mark Wahlberg was kind enough to give the Spider-Man star a massage gun after he left his house in Los Angeles and drove him back to his hotel. But the youngster was a little confused about what the recovery device was supposed to be used for. “I was confused as to what kind of massage gun this was. Having never seen one before, I thought it was the type of self-pleasure,” Holland admitted. Check it out:
Tom Holland went on to say he thought Mark Wahlberg was taking him back home for “other reasons” besides just being a gentleman. “I didn’t know… It’s Hollywood, baby. Who knows what’s gonna happen?” he said jokingly. The 50-year-old actor said he’d been talking to his co-star about working out, fitness and recovery. So he decided to give him what he thought is one of the best massage guns out there. “I can’t believe, the whole time, you were thinking that,” he told Holland. “You gotta get your head outta the gutter, buddy.”
Amused by their awkward-in-hindsight car ride, Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg clearly have great chemistry. This will make for a great movie experience when Uncharted hits the big screen. A trailer for the movie was released last month. It showcases the duo performing some impressive stunts, and a fight scene that happens on two old-timey pirate ships suspended in the air by moving helicopters. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by Rafe Lee Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. It also stars Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas in supporting roles.
The Tom Holland starrer entered development in 2008, but the film had a complicated production process. There was a revolving door of directors, writers, and cast members attached to the project at various points. Filmmakers David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Shawn Levy, Dan Trachtenberg, and Travis Knight were initially signed to direct the movie – but eventually left. And Mark Wahlberg was set to play Drake in early development. However, when the Marvel alum was cast in 2017, Wahlberg was given the role of Sully.
Uncharted chronicles the adventures of Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) and his partner Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) who must go up against a wealthy, ruthless treasure hunter and his mercenaries to claim a lost fortune in gold from the voyages of Magellan. During their quest, they also track clues that may lead to Sam – Drake’s long-lost brother.
Uncharted, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, premieres in theaters on February 11th, 2022 in the United Kingdom and on February 18th in the United States.
