Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley shot the sci-fi film Chaos Walking back in 2017. Originally slated to open in March 2019, the adaptation of Patrick Ness’s novel The Knife of Never Letting Go underwent reshoots in April and May of 2019 and still has yet to see a theatrical release. We had just seen the first trailer for Chaos Walking not too long ago, but it looks like that has even become outdated as the film is suffering yet another setback.

Chaos Walking has once again changed release dates. It was slated to finally open on January 22, but it is now being reported that the Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley big-budget sci-fi epic will be opening on March 5. That over two years past the original date it was supposed to open. At this point, one has to wonder just who out there is really excited to see this movie? Is there a strong enough fan following for the stars and the property to ensure this movie even has a chance at ending up profitable?

And as is the case with pretty much any big studio film that suffers massive delays, it is likely that the critical response to the movie is going to be lukewarm at best. That is a shame since Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley are both exceptionally talented young actors and do not deserve any of the potential critical scorn this movie is going to get. At the end of the day, it is going to be somewhat morbidly fascinating to see how this entire situation shakes out.

Meanwhile, it is very likely that Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley have moved past the movie. Who could blame them? It is a project that they were a part of nearly four years ago at the outset. Both actors have gone on to critical and pop culture fame with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Star Wars sequels, respectively. It is highly doubtful that Chaos Walking is going to light a fire under their fans or have fans of the original novel excited to see it brought to life on the big screen.

At this point, Chaos Walking seems like an obligation of a release instead of something to legitimately look forward to. That’s a bummer because the actual story that was presented in the trailer is an intriguing one. The concept that all men have their thoughts projected at all times sounds like such a rich sci-fi concept to explore and demonstrate in cinema. There were some fantastic moments from Tom Holland in the trailer regarding this idea. But with all the delays and bad press it has suffered, Chaos Walking has a real uphill battle ahead of it.

We are just going to have to wait and see if Chaos Walking actually sticks to its March 5, 2021 release date. With a movie like this, it is tough to believe it will ever even get released. But hey, if The New Mutants can finally see the light of day, we are sure Chaos Walking will come out eventually.
