See Tobey Maguire As Darth Maul Fighting Jedi

Check what Tobey Maguire looks like if he's channeling some inner-Sith. Here's what he looks like as Darth Maul from The Phantom Menace.

Tobey Maguire had his last action turn playing Peter Parker in the Spider-Man trilogy. The innocent face and general disposition played well into the role for a character who comes about his new powers by happenstance. He translated that into a run of movies that mostly featured his “innocence” which played well on screen.

But we’ve learned over the years that for as much as he played an apple pie and ice cream type on the big screen, Tobey Maguire might not have been the best dude in the world. That’s why seeing the actor’s face superimposed on the top of a Sith body actually kind of works. Check out what Matan Animation Studios did to make Tobey Maguire on the wrong side of the force:

The original scene from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace is actually the *real* Darth Maul who was played by Ray Park. In terms of this movie when it came to the action sequences, Park was one of the film’s saving graces. So Tobey Maguire’s head gets a little lift here because it’s on top of a more than capable body.

Tobery Maguire kicks things off with a douchey jacket throw at Obi-Wan Kenobi played by Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn. They then kick off the fight scene which, at the time, was easily the best thing in a completely broken film. It’s capped off with some Maguire hip thrusts to celebrate the death of Jinn that makes you dislike the actor even more. And yet, it works.

The last few years haven’t been the best run for Tobey Maguire who might actually be a villain in real life. Some of this was detailed in Molly’s Game, the 2017 film which detailed Molly Bloom’s high stake celebrity card game in Los Angeles. Maguire wasn’t mentioned by name, but it’s widely known he was the infamous Player X in the game who submarined Bloom’s venture and just generally acted like a dick.

But obviously, something like this conjecture isn’t enough to derail a career. Tobey Maguire is set up for a couple of big movies in the near future. He’s rumored to have a major part upcoming in Babylon, Damien Chazelle’s (La La Land, Whiplash) next movie which is staring down an all-star cast.

And, of course, he’s been heavily rumored to reprise his Peter Parker role (or maybe someone else) in the upcoming Spider-Man 3 extravaganza which is supposedly bringing back nearly every part of the webslinger’s long and rich movie history, studio-be-damned. It is likely to unite Maguire along with Andrew Garfield and current Peter Parker, Tom Holland. That movie, if they pull it off, will be one of the great movie feats of all-time.

But for now, let’s just enjoy a show-off Tobey Maguire striking down a Jedi and just generally leaning into the bad guy role for a moment or two. Is it over the top? Sure. But it also kind of makes sense for what we might now know about the actor.
