Timothy Olyphant was once the lead in one of the biggest fan-favorite shows on FX, Justified. Now, after seven years since the original series ended, Olyphant gets his chance to reprise arguably his best role as Raylan Givens. The new sequel series is titled Justified: City Primevil, and it is starting to take shape. The series is set to start production this week in Chicago. The newest announcement for the series is that a host of cast members has been added to the upcoming sequel show.

The new cast members that will join Timothy Olyphant are Aunjanue Ellis, Boyd Holbrook, Adelaide Clemens, Vondie Curtis Hall, Marin Ireland, Norbert Leo Butz, Victor Williams, and Vivian Olyphant. The cast member of note here is Vivian Olyphant, who is Timothy’s real-life daughter and who will play his daughter in the upcoming sequel series. Aunjanue Ellis spent time alongside Will Smith in King Richard. Boyd Holbrook was recently in the B.J. Novak Hulu series, The Premise. Adelaide Clemens starred in The Great Gatsby. Vondie Curtis Hall appeared in Harriet. Marie Ireland was in Y-The Last Man. Norbert Leo Butz appeared in Bloodline, and Victor Williams was in The Good Lord Bird. This is certainly a high-level cast that is joining Olyphant.

Justified: City Primevil is meant to follow Raylan Givens, who has now left Kentucky and is living in Miami. He is attempting to balance the life of being a marshall while raising his daughter, who is going to be portrayed by his actual daughter. Givens is sent to Detroit, where he has a run-in with Clement Mansell aka The Oklahoma Wildman (Holbrook). Mansell has evaded capture from the Detroit PD and is now aiming to continue with his sociopathic ways. Now it is up to Givens to stop this man from taking more lives. This is a limited series and is based on Elmore Leonard’s City Primevil: High Noon in Detroit. Leonard is the author behind the stories in which Raylan Givens is the main character.

The original Justified series ran from 2010 to 2015 and was critically and commercially successful. The entire series still holds a 97% critic rating and 95% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Simply put, everyone loves this show, and it is fantastic that it is being brought back. Though Justified: City Primevil is a limited series, we are hoping to see Timothy Olyphant reprise his role as Givens for the foreseeable future. FX might just be waiting to see how the sequel series is accepted to further expand on this universe. Based on the approval ratings thus far, it stands to reason that the series will be welcomed by all.

With Justified: City Primevil starting production this week, it stands to reason that we might not see this sequel series until Q1 of next year. Depending on how fast the production gets the shoots down, we could see the series premiere sometime at the end of the year. Likely in December, but expect this presumed FX hit to come out in early 2023. We honestly can’t wait to see Timothy Olyphant back in his best role.
