With so much to get excited about these days in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s sometimes easy to overlook that Brie Larson is soon going to return to the mix with The Marvels. Though we are still more than a year away from the return of that character and her story, we are beginning to get some more casting news, specifically around what other Marvel characters are set up to join the mix in this flick. Some pieces of the cast are already known, but as with all things Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are almost always surprises in store. And it looks like a fan-favorite Thor: Ragnarok character is going to make her way into the cast.
An eagle-eyed Twitter fan thinks she’s spotted Tessa Thompson among some promotional material for the film. Actress Zenobia Shroff had posted a picture that was in celebration of the cast coming together for the movie. There were headshots spread all around and one of them looks like it is Thompson. That would mean Valkyrie will work her way into this movie in some fashion. Check out the picture and see if you think that is her in the background.
While Tessa Thompson hasn’t been officially announced as part of The Marvels cast, it would make sense to bring her into the fold considering this is a mostly-female production from the studio. Her character was first introduced in Thor: Ragnarok as a Scrapper, dealing with Asgardians who’ve had the displeasure of landing on Sakaar. But of course, we come to find out that she’s actually a Valkyrie warrior and ends up becoming a key piece in Thor’s escape and then ultimately return to Asgard to fight Hela.
If she were to appear in The Marvels, it would be the fourth time Tessa Thompson was in a Marvel movie. After Ragnarok, she had an appearance in Avengers: Endgame in the final battle with Thanos. And she’s also set to appear in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. That movie is due out this year and will bring all sorts of folks together to join Chris Hemsworth’s titular character. There will also be Natalie Portman reprising her Jane Foster role and ultimately taking on the Mighty Thor title. All of the Guardians of the Galaxy folks are going to be featured as well in what should be a massive movie. Taika Waititi is back in the director’s chair after crushing it with Ragnarok.
As for The Marvels, well, that film isn’t set to hit the big screen until 2023. It will bring back Brie Larson as Captain Marvel but will also introduce Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/ Ms. Marvel. She will ultimately take over the character from Larson and is set to become one of the more powerful heroes in the MCU. Teyonah Parris is set to reprise her Monica Rambeau role as well. And Larson, for her part, had teased this Tessa Thompson appearance some months ago. It looks like it is a full go and The Marvels is really shaping up to be something special.
