For a while now, fans have been wondering if the Ezra Miller-led The Flash film is ever going to be released, and director Andy Muschietti just gave us all confirmation that this thing is still happening. In a recent post on his Instagram, Muschietti posted a photo of him holding a thick, 3-D lightning bolt emblem in his hand. In the background is the Central City set, bringing to life Barry Allen’s comic book hometown.

The caption reads simply “We are bringing the lightning soon,” punctuated by a hashtag for The Flash movie. The post, which shows off a corner of what looks like a New York-esque town complete with a pizza parlor and what looks like a bike shop, has gotten over 55,000 likes so far, and fans are loving the chance to finally get a look at some of the things the new movie has in store.

According to Collider, the first official trailer for The Flash will drop during the Super Bowl on February 12, 2023, with the actual film premiering in June. According to The Wrap, the film is actually gaining so much hype that its trailer will be given precedence over Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is truly something to boast about.

This is the kind of win the DC Universe needs right now, as it (along with Warner Bros.) has been having a rough few months. Recently, James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios and started cutting projects left and right, resulting in the loss of Henry Cavill as Superman and a third film in the Wonder Woman franchise, among other things. Black Adam won’t be seeing a sequel either, as it didn’t get high enough numbers at the box office.

The Flash, which sees Barry Allen time-traveling to the past to try to save his mother from being killed and accidentally screwing up his own timeline in the process, is said to be one of those films that has something for everyone. Not only is it directed by IT’s Andy Muschietti, but it also has a script penned by Christina Hodson, who wrote for the Birds of Prey and Batgirl series.

Plus, The Flash will include, not just one Batman, but two. Barry Allen, played by Ezra Miller, will meet both Ben Affleck’s version of Bruce Wayne/Batman and Michael Keaton’s version. Sasha Calle will also appear as Supergirl, and Henry Allen will be played by Office Space’s Ron Livingston.

As awesome as the new Flash movie is projected to be, however, many are saying it will still be a miracle to see it in theaters. Not only did filming have to be rescheduled due to the pandemic, but some of the roles had to be recast because the actors took on other projects in the meantime.

The Flash film seemed to be plagued with problems, first and foremost the problem of Ezra Miller’s very public legal woes. The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Fantastic Beasts actor began as quite the indie darling, only to begin getting into more and more trouble in recent years. Video evidence showed Miller assaulting a fan, which was followed by burglary and trespassing charges, among other alarming incidents.

Still, though, there is always a chance for redemption, and Warner Bros. doesn’t have any plans to replace the actor any time soon. As of late 2022, Miller is undergoing mental health treatment, and hopefully will be able to make a speedy recovery for any sequels to The Flash that may come up if this first one is a hit.
