Exclusive: The Acolyte Plot Details And Opening Scene Revealed

The upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte plot will involve two sisters who are separated by the Jedi Order and examine the moral “gray area” of the Jedi. According to our trusted and proven sources, The Acolyte plot will largely focus on the Jedi’s tradition of taking Force-sensitive children from their families for training and its consequences. In this case, one sister (likely series lead Amandla Stenberg) is taken by the Jedi for training and the other voluntarily joins the Sith after coming to view the Jedi as evil for their disregard for their family.

Additionally, our trusted and proven sources describe the opening scene of The Acolyte as something of a tease for the main plot, involving Carrie-Anne Moss. The Matrix star is described as a powerful Jedi who is introduced in a fight in a noodle shop, though it is unclear exactly who she is in combat with (or exactly what kind of noodles they might be).

The only official description from Lucasfilm about The Acolyte’s plot so far describes the show as being about a “former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes” during the High Republic days, i.e, the glory years of the Old Republic a century before The Phantom Menace. It is possible that Carrie-Ann Moss is the Jedi Master and Amandla Stenberg is the former Padawan, though it is too early to be sure.

In addition to Amandla Stenberg and Carrie-Anne Moss, The Acolyte will star Lee Jung-jae (the first images of whom were recently leaked), The Good Place’s Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, and at least one Wookie. The Acolyte will likely be a very plot-heavy series, given that it was created by Leslye Headland, best known for the twisty, time-travel series Russian Doll for Netflix.

We are in a time when Lucasfilm seems willing to try out some new things with their crown jewel Star Wars franchise, so it is no surprise that The Acolyte will have a somewhat darker plot than is typical. In many ways, it seems that Disney is going in a similar direction with the show as it did with Andor, which delved into the moral relativism and dark side of the Rebel Alliance. This time around, it looks like the Jedi Order is next up to get some shades of gray.

Since the controversy and relatively lukewarm box office returns of The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, Lucasfilm has not released a Star Wars feature film. Instead, the studio has focused on releasing shows on Disney+, beginning with the mega-hit The Mandalorian and followed by the decently satisfying Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Book of Boba Fett, which even Temuera Morrison hopes will get better soon.

Soon, Star Wars fans will be getting a new bunch of Disney+ shows, including the second season of The Bad Batch, the Jude Law series Skeleton Crew, the hotly anticipated Ahsoka, and The Acolyte. Now that we know The Acolyte’s plot will be getting darker than we could have anticipated, we are that much more interested.
