There are few things more fascinating than an awkward celebrity interview – from the Kourtney Kardashian pretending that her camera froze, to Daniel Craig’s matter-of-fact approach to questions regarding the new James Bond. The latest famous person to shut down intrusive queries about his private life is Taika Waititi. The director abruptly ended a television appearance after he was asked a question about his relationship with singer Rita Ora.

Taika Waititi and the pop star have been dating since April 2021, sharing adorable insights into their relationship on social media and in a few interviews. Recently, a report by The Sun said the couple is engaged, with a wedding set to take place as soon as their work commitments end. Since the Marvel alum and the singer have yet to confirm the rumors, This Morning’s Philip Schofield decided to ask the big question.

As the interview for Lightyear drew to a close, Schofield said, “Well, we’ve congratulated Chris [Evans] on his birthday. So Taika, are there wedding bells?” The Thor: Love and Thunder star tried to interject by saying: “You can congratulate me! It’s in August! Let’s talk about my birthday!” Taika Waititi proceeded to pull out his earpiece and toss it aside, saying, “What? Sorry, you’re breaking up! Nope, gone!”

At that point, the interview went completely off the rails, with Taika Waititi taking a thumbs-up pose and Evans awkwardly laughing. The chat was then forced to an abrupt end, with Schofield adding, “Regardless, she’s gorgeous, we love her here, she’s always a great guest, and congratulations!” The entire exchange was extremely awkward since it’s pretty much understood, that a guest’s personal life is off-limits unless the agreed-upon interview is specifically about that subject.

Meanwhile, the Pixar Animation and Walt Disney movie is set for release on July 17th. Directed by Angus MacLane from a script he co-wrote with Jason Headley, Lightyear tells the story of young astronaut Buzz Lightyear, who is marooned on a hostile planet with his commander and crew. As he tries to find a way back home through space and time, Buzz is forced to confront a threat to the universe’s safety. Chris Evans lends his voice to Buzz Lightyear and Taika Waititi introduces us to space ranger Mo Morrison.

In addition to Lightyear, Taika Waititi is also preparing to begin the press tour for Thor: Love and Thunder. The highly anticipated Marvel movie will be released in theaters early next month. Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the story follows Thor as he attempts to find inner peace. But his self-care is interrupted when Gorr the God Butcher reveals his plan to eliminate all gods. To prevent this from happening, he recruits Valkyrie, Korg, and Jane Foster – who has become the Mighty Thor.

Directed by Taika Waititi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Thor: Love and Thunder will be the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Starring alongside Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tessa Thompson are Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn and Jeff Goldblum. Russell Crowe will make a cameo appearance as Zeus, the King of the Olympians.

Additionally, Taika Waititi is looking forward to his upcoming Star Wars film. “I’m still writing. I’m still coming up with the ideas and storylining it,” he recently told ScreenRant. He added that he wants to make sure it feels like a Star Wars movie.
