Sylvester Stallone has found himself trending on social media recently and it has been a bit of a mystery for some people. The 74-year-old is always keeping busy in the realm of filmmaking – he’ll be voicing King Shark in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad and has also finished a brand new cut of Rocky IV – but that is not why he has suddenly popped up on Twitter. no, instead this has to do with Stallone’s personal life and a decision he has made that has some of his fans changing their opinion about him.

According to Page Six, Sylvester Stallone has become a member of Mar-a-Lago, the private club that is owned by Donald Trump. Stallone is a resident of the area after purchasing a home in Palm Beach back in December. He also attended a New Year’s Eve party at the club back in 2016 and has been seen taking photos with guests of the club. Though Stallone’s representatives did not comment on his membership to Mar-a-Lago, it seems like it is certain that he has become a member of the club.

Why would Sylvester Stallone joining a club cause some controversy with fans and start him trending? It would seem that it implies an endorsement and closeness to Donald Trump, which many people take issue with after Trump’s highly controversial presidency. Users have taken to social media to register their disappointment and criticism towards the actor after it was announced that he became a member at Mar-a-Lago.

Sylvester Stallone does not seem to have been terribly open with his political beliefs, but his past associations with Donald Trump and these recent revelations seem to put him firmly in the former President’s camp. Because of this, it means that people are taking political sides when it comes to Stallone’s career and public persona. But just as there has been criticism, supporters have also taken to Twitter to show their support for Stallone as he started trending on social media.

It will be interesting to see if Sylvester Stallone joining Mar-a-Lago and possibly getting closer to Donald Trump’s inner circle will heavily affect any of his future projects. In addition to The Suicide Squad, Sylvester Stallone has the superhero film Samaritan coming out later this year. There is also the continuing possibility of The Expendables 4 and whether or not Stallone will maintain his leading role in that franchise. We already know that Sylvester Stallone won’t be appearing as Rocky in the upcoming Creed III. Although the reasons given for that were not attached to politics, the timing of his non-involvement and this recent realization about his political connections will surely add some fuel to certain theories.

We will have to wait and see whether or not Sylvester Stallone will see a significant downturn in the interest surrounding him after this revelation and his sudden trending on social media. Since it will only be his voice in The Suicide Squad, we wonder if fans that are disappointed in his membership to Mar-a-Lago will be able to better enjoy that movie since they won’t have to see Stallone. And for fans that are still supportive of him, they have that and Samaritan to look forward to later this year.
