There are few iconic action stars left in the world. One of those icons is Sylvester Stallone. The man exploded in Hollywood after his portrayal of Rocky, in the 1976 film of the same name. Another iconic role that Sly took on was that of John Rambo in First Blood. Both characters have enjoyed franchises that have spanned for 30+ years each. We are likely not the only ones who have envisioned a scenario in which the pair would fight one another, and who would come out on top. Well now the man, himself, has spoken on who would win. Stallone posted about the hypothetical fight on his Instagram page. You can see the results below:

In a lengthy post, Sylvester Stallone went into detail about why each man would prevail, and how they would do so. This is truly some meta-action right here. Stallone is playing referee and breaking down the fight between the characters that he portrayed and studied for years while cementing why either of them could win this fight. Honestly, he’s spot on about both. The fight proposed would be a “no rules” type of engagement, meaning that Rocky would certainly not be at an advantage if it were a clear-cut boxing match. Although he might have more striking power than his mercenary twin, Rambo certainly has the training to strike at the throat, eyes, and other vulnerable portions of the body. It would be hard to say who would win, but Stallone claims that neither man would be the same after the fight. That’s certainly true. He doesn’t claim a victor outright.

Essentially Sylvester Stallone is saying that both Rocky and Rambo would be evenly matched due to their given skillsets, but that none would or could get the upper hand. Rocky is strong on his feet and could easily knock Rambo out, however, Rambo could take this fight to the ground if not knocked out. That is where he would go crazy with all manner of military-styled hand-to-hand combat. While not clarifying a winner overall, I think it’s safe to say that Sly is essentially saying Rambo could win if he isn’t knocked out in the first six punches from Rocky.

What is cleverly done in this post is that Sylvester Stallone is leaving the judgment in the hands of the fans. Sly certainly laid out the groundwork for why each of the characters could and would win, but he doesn’t side with either of them. That’s some smart thinking considering these are his most iconic roles. Picking a clear-cut winner might make fans think the man is picking his favorite portrayed character. If I was to bet on this hypothetical fight, I would take Rambo. If there are no rules, his training would kick in and allow some sheer brutality.

In the past five years, Sylvester Stallone has appeared as Rocky Balboa in Creed II and as John Rambo in Rambo: Last Blood. While those characters are likely retired at this point, it’s good that the man is having some hypothetical fun with them. One thing is for sure, none of us want a right hook from Rocky or a throat grab from Rambo.
