Sasha Calle

Sasha Calle is set to appear in The Flash as the DCU version of Supergirl. She joins the multitude of characters that are now going to be part of this multiverse explosion that is set to start with The Flash. On top of Calle, Michael Keaton is set to reprise his role as Batman, and Ben Affleck will also be appearing in the film too. This will presumably be Affleck’s last time suiting up as The Caped Crusader. With all this exciting news about this new DC entry, we have all been gifted the first look at the new Supergirl costume that Calle will be wearing for the film. This pic was provided by Collider, as the costume was shown during a licensing event that is taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada. You can see the costume below:

The biggest thing to note is that this is not the typical Supergirl costume that contains a skirt. That was the usual way in which the character had been portrayed in the comics. A variation of that costume was also used in the CW series, Supergirl. Though Kara Zor-El also ditched the impractical skirt for a costume that is more in line with the above image. The good thing about the new Supergirl costume is that there are elements that help to cater to the idea that she fights crime. The suit will go over her thumbs, which will aid in fighting, even though she is a strong being anyway. The two-toned shoulder area also is a nice touch, as the usual red coloring is only shown via the “S” symbol or the red cape. However, this design seamlessly blends in red and blue coloring. Also, the look of the suit happens to resemble Henry Cavill’s design from Man of Steel.

Supergirl is going through a bit of rebranding, as much of the DC Universe is as well. Sasha Calle is the first Latin American to take on the role of Supergirl. The idea is also to get away from the Synderverse style of things, which is a good thing. DC needs a bit of refreshing, and that could very well happen because of the events in The Flash. Also, there is Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Black Adam coming into focus soon, so Sasha Calle might be the Supergirl of the future of DC, as she could appear in those films as well. She will first appear in The Flash, before flying off to her own solo movie. Batgirl is also getting a solo movie, so we might see the pair meet one another sooner rather than later.

The Flash is set to premiere on June 23, 2023. Black Adam is set to arrive in theaters this November, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set to debut a month later. Though this is just heavy speculation, we could see Supergirl appear at some point before The Flash. DC might do well by trying to emulate Marvel in adding some huge cameos via post-credit scenes. Either way, we are excited to see this new Supergirl in action.
