Stranger Things Has Failed To Achieve A Huge Record
Stranger Things Season 4 has risen to be one of the most watched shows in Netflix history, but the series has failed in achieving a highly coveted record.
No one can argue that Stranger Things is one of the most successful shows in the history of Netflix. In fact, it is so successful, that it currently holds the #2 spot of the most viewed shows in the history of the streaming platform. However, that #2 spot is where the series will rank for the time being, as it failed to achieve a huge record. That huge record was unseating Squid Game as the most watched show in Netflix history. Netflix bases its viewership hour collecting on the first 28 days a series or film has been released. Squid Game holds an astonishing 1.7 billion hours viewed. Stranger Things Season 4 nearly caught that amount with 1.4 billion hours viewed. Sadly, it was unable to catch the Korean story powerhouse.
Netting 1.4 billion hours viewed is nothing to scoff at, especially because Stranger Things Season 4 is far longer than Squid Game. Squid Game’s first season clocks in around 8 hours of viewing. While the newest season of everyone’s favorite horror series comes in at 13 hours. Although 28 days is plenty of time to watch 13 hours, people are often prone to taking much longer to finish length series. We’re all busy people, so that is understandable. What makes Squid Game’s record more impressive is that no one knew what the series was before it premiered. Stranger Things has been going on since 2016.
Stranger Things has become a huge hit among audiences regardless of it not being able to catch Squid Game. The newest season was broken up into two parts, as the final episode clocked in at 2 and 1/2 hours alone. Creators of the show, the Duffer Brothers, claimed they wanted each episode to feel like its own movie. That was certainly the case as each episode was around 1 hour and 15 mins or 1 hour and 30 mins long, excluding the finale. Those lengthy episodes could have been why the series was not able to catch up to the 1.7 billion hours viewed by Squid Game. Still, Stranger Things achieved a massive record that is likely not to be beaten by a show anytime soon.
Stranger Things viewership hours were counted by both parts of the series. Part 1 and Part 2 were counted in the normal 28-day measurement but were still unable to surpass the 1.4 billion hours viewed mark. The closest to Stranger Things Season 4 is Money Heist Part 5, which holds 792.2 million hours viewed. That is only half of where Stranger Things is currently at. Squid Game is even further out of reach.
Stranger Things Season 5 is currently being worked on, and it is to be the final season released for the series. The kids of Hawkins will finally see that the upside-down is to be closed and will never bother them again. Well, that is the hope. The Duffer Brothers might be able to catch Squid Game, unless the Korean drama unveils its second season, and destroys its own record.
