While Steven Spielberg may be known for making some of the biggest action blockbusters of the last several decades, it’s his latest feature, The Fabelmans, that’s receiving an honor that many dramas like it could never have dreamed of. According to Variety, the Jaws director’s critically acclaimed motion picture will be appearing on screens across India beginning on February 10. This news is monumental as, typically, the only American-produced projects shown in the country are blockbuster titles that include translations – with The Fabelmans set to be screened only in English.

The news is another major moment for Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, as, just last week, the director and his movie nabbed the Golden Globe Awards for best director and best picture drama. The now-celebrated feature has been gaining a lot of momentum as the entertainment biz marches towards Oscar season, with many believing that Spielberg along with his cast and crew, stand to be big winners. In India, the coming-of-age drama will be released courtesy of Reliance Entertainment.

Originally landing in theaters across the United States on November 11, 2022, Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans was an immediate hit with audiences and critics alike. Currently sitting with 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, the feature has managed to rake in a worldwide box office total of $17.3 million so far. Many critics are praising Spielberg’s storytelling and directorial eye in the film as well as the performances of its main cast which includes Paul Dano (The Batman) and Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine).

A semi-autobiographical feature, Steven Spielberg co-wrote and co-produced The Fabelmans alongside his frequent collaborator, Tony Kushner. The feature follows the story of Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel LaBelle), a young man who becomes obsessed with films after his parents (Michelle Williams and Paul Dano) take him to see The Greatest Show on Earth. As he begins to record his own home movies centered around his everyday life, Sammy better understands not only his family dynamics but also the wide world around him.

A star-studded production, the feature also includes the likes of Seth Rogen, Judd Hirsch, Julia Butters, and David Lynch in supporting roles. With a career spanning multiple decades, Steven Spielberg knows who he wants on his creative team, with many familiar names appearing in the credits for The Fabelmans. Included are legendary composer John Williams and cinematographer Janusz Kamiński.

While Steven Spielberg took home the award for best director and best motion picture drama with The Fabelmans at this year’s Golden Globe Awards, the film received a total of five nominations at the ceremony. With its recent wins in mind, it seems as though the feature will be a no-brainer for the rest of the award season leading up to, and including, the most celebrated night of them all – the Academy Awards. As members of the casts and crews behind the biggest features of the year wait for the list of nominees to come out, we’re guessing that Steven Spielberg isn’t sweating it too much when it comes to his prospects for The Fabelmans.
