A Star Wars Halloween special is juicing up the Dark Side in preparation for the holiday this year, a Bloody Disgusting exclusive reveals. Lucasfilm is releasing an animated special on Disney+ to commemorate the occasion. A dispatch describes the event as follows: “The all-new animated special from Lucasfilm and the LEGO Group is a seasonal celebration of the villainous dark side of the Star Wars galaxy — just in time for Halloween.”

Entitled LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales, the Star Wars Halloween special revolves around Poe Dameron and BB-8 crash-landing on Mustafar and tangling with Tatooine crime lord Jabba the Hutt’s miner cousin Graballa, who has abandoned the derelict Belgaroth asteroid field and taken control of Darth Vader’s castle. He has converted the building into a luxury hotel resort inspired by the galaxy’s most prominent Siths. It’s the perfect weekend getaway found anywhere in the universe and the only one like it.

The Star Wars Halloween heroes walk in on Graballa renovating the castle while waiting for Poe’s X-Wing to finish repairs, and discover bloodcurdling stories behind the stronghold that once housed the child of prophecy. Aided by Graballa’s young mechanic Dean, Poe and BB-8 navigate the structure and meet Vaneé, Vader’s elderly servant, who tells campfire stories about the artifacts scattered throughout the castle. Each creepy anecdote is linked to canon Star Wars lore, particularly those surrounding Anakin Skywalker, the Knights of Ren, and the Siths. The Star Wars Halloween special is set after the events of Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

Star Wars Halloween introduces the ultimate guilty pleasure this holiday by allowing audiences to briefly tap into their Dark Side, and we couldn’t be more hyped. Lucasfilm’s ghostly special is expected to end on a high note; Graballa’s presence in the castle awakens a sinister plot decades in the making. Poe and his friends must overcome their fear of the Great Beyond and thwart “an ancient evil” from usurping the galaxy once more. Our Star Wars Halloween heroes eventually escape with their lives, though how this will come about, the press release hasn’t fully disclosed. Judging by the diegetic quality and characteristic charm of the last few specials, it’s bound to grip viewers from start to finish. BB-8 is going to be as quirky as ever, with Poe’s distinctive swagger elevating the story beyond the obvious Goosebumps feel.

The Star Wars Halloween special will be told in exclusively brick format. It stars a fresh voice cast separate from the movie trilogy, featuring the talents of Jake Green as Poe Dameron, Raphael Alejandro as Dean, Dana Snyder as Graballa the Hutt, Tony Hale as Vaneé, Christian Slater as Ren, Trevor Devall as Emperor Palpatine, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn as NI-L8, and Matt Sloan as Darth Vader. David Shayne is writing and executive producing, with Ken Cunningham serving as director. The Star Wars Halloween special borrows extensively from lesser-known series mythos like Vader’s castle and Graballa the Hutt.

Fortress Vader, located in the volcanic planet of Mustafar where Anakin Skywalker lost his limbs to Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, first appeared in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The Rebel Alliance, led by Captain Cassian Andor, infiltrated the base but were confronted by Vader himself. Ancient Sith Lord Darth Momin haunts the fork-shaped castle, channeling the Dark Side of the Force into crafting the design. He left behind a cursed mask that persists to this day. The castle’s ominous origins easily makes it the perfect site for a Star Wars Halloween special.

Fortress Vader (soon to be Star Wars’s version of Hotel Transylvania) was a prominent location in Star Wars: Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith, a Marvel comic book by Daredevil’s Charles Soule and Superior Spider-Man’s Giuseppe Camuncoli. Graballa is a non-canon antagonist from LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. The fledgling crime lord worked for Darth Vader once, making him the logical successor to his castle. Vaneé featured in Rogue One, replacing the Sith Lord’s other attendant in Dark Lord of the Sith. He was supposed to make his animated debut in Star Wars Rebels, but was replaced by Veris Hydan. He makes his actual debut in the Halloween special.

LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales, Lucasfilm’s upcoming Halloween special, comes out on Disney+ ahead of the 31st on October 1.
